Hello scribes,
As I was reading through the Forgotten Realms Adventures book, on page 1 is a note from Vangerdahast to Elminster. And there's a quote that I found interesting:
"On this side of the Dragon Reach we had no idea what was happening, save that a large number of scurrilous individuals (including, to no one's surprise, half the town council of Waymoot) suddenly keeled over."
This is in reference to Bhaal dying during the Time of Troubles.
I can't seem to find reference to it, but I think I've read about a haunted ruin or dungeon in the Waymoot area. And if half the town council was at one time Bhaal assassins, this seems like a perfect place for there to be a hidden temple, maybe even the primary center for Bhaal's worship in Cormyr.
I know THO has mentioned the Knights adventured in Waymoot before, I wonder if they ran into any trouble with assassins there. ;)

There we go, thanks! A collapsed dungeon labyrinth where a dragon stored gold, created from a long vanished keep. Then there's rumors of a beholder that broke into them from below.
Vangey and the War Wizards letting a beholder lair right below town doesn't seem right to me. That seems like a rumor the War Wizards would certainly investigate. I wonder if that's just a story created to keep adventurers from digging and poking around. I could certainly see Bhaal cultists using portions of the collapsed labyrinth though.
I know there's rumors of drow trading with the surface via Plungepool, though that is more of a "send the goods down" way. If there is a beholder lairing there, I wonder if this is the connection where the human traders get paid or interface with the Realms Below. |

I rather doubt the beholder was advertising its presence. Vangey and his War Wizards likely had no reason to go poking around in the underside of the town, and thus didn't know about its eyeful inhabitant. |

Agreed, I wouldn't think a beholder would announce its presence. But if Volo knew about that rumor, you can be sure the War Wizards did too, or at least found out about said rumor after Volo wrote about it. |

Somewhat off-topic:
Every time I read 'Bhaal Assasins', I think 'Ball Assassins'. I picture small, armadillo-like half-rodents (like those Groundlings) that can ball-up and travel really fast toward their prey (like Sonic the Hedgehog). |

Continuing the off-topic-ness:
Chris Perkins ruined Bhaal for me by dressing up as him and mispronouncing his name at PAX (he said Bha'hahl when it should be Bahl).
I find it slightly strange as well that a boy named Chris Perkins introduced me to tabletop DnD at school. Then I smile as I remember how very flamboyantly gay that boy grew up to be. |
