Alright, the thread title might be misleading but i didn't come up with anything better.

What i want to ask is this: Has there ever been any spell battle of Spellfire versus Silverfire? And i mean battle as in competent spellfire wielder against Chosen of Mystra, not Shandril going mad for pain and despair and Elminster & Co shielding themselves from the effect.

Furthermore, i'm not interested in "this does xdx damage while this can do only ydy so this side wins end of story", i'm more interested in the implications for the Weave, if Mystra/Azuth would even allow such an event, if the Chosens are prepared for it in some ways and maybe team up to gang the offending party as soon as possible, this kind of things.

Is there anything canon i might look at? Was this asked already and Ed gave some kind of answer somewhere?

If this helps the scenario i'm thinking about is the Simbul facing against a mighty (as in: the zulkirs power his circle magic if needed and he juggles with Szass Tam philactery when bored) spellfire wielder red wizard. (A scenario that practically guarantees spells will fly if there's no divine intervention).

I'll probably ask Ed about this but first i want to make sure the answer or bits of it aren't floating around so as to avoid adding to the pile of questions if there is no need for it.

Thanks everyone.

Hmm if it was the simbul vs the circle of thay, I would think some sort of plot armor would happen that would protect both but damage them equally and force the simbul to go mad and destroy the building and then teleport out.

All in all though, I really don't see either device hurting the weave, it would just be magical affects going back and forth .

Seeing as spellfire is the raw stuff of magic I would imagine that silver fire would triumph over spellfire as it cleaves almost all magic.
I doubt there would be any weave damage but such power in concentration might cause planer rifts etc.

I not positive your questions have been posed before but I can say this much. Ed has stated that certain of the Chosen (Khelben and Elminster, to be exact) are able to utilize spellfire and could do battle one-on-one with such a person. I know that doesn't answer your spellfire v. silverfire question, but it's the best I could come up with quickly. I'll need to give it some more thought, but I think spellfire would win (and I believe I think that because Ed has answered such a question in the past-but I'm not sure). Perhaps one of the sages will be able to track it down if I can't.

I have a dream that one day, all game worlds will exist as one.

Spellfire can easily be countered by wall of force and similar force effects - magics which can be learned by any competent mageling. Or even a priest, haha.

Silverfire can only be countered by exotic high-power spells - known only to the Simbul, Khelben, plus perhaps other Chosen, liches, and a few elven High Mages.

Spellfire cannot penetrate Silverfire defenses, except through overwhelming firepower.

Mystra would never allow magical attacks to destroy any of her Chosen, of course.

Elminster and perhaps other Chosen happen to also wield Spellfire.

Yep, that's why i'm not pitting Jimmy the Blacksmith with Spellfire against the Simbul.

Yeah like Telamont Thantul that spent the last 1700 years in the Demiplane of Shadows with all those silverfire wielding horrors, oh wait ...

Care to elaborate on the sources of such an absolute statement? If there is a precedent other than Shandril (and i don't count that as Spellfire VS Silverfire beacuse she wasn't actively trying to fry Elminster & Co) i would like to know where it is so i can go and read it myself.

Obviously. But we may try asking Sylune.

I know, but i'm talking about the Simbul, she may or may not have learned how to produce Spellfire from Silverfire from her lover.
I don't remember if Ed ever stated it because aside Elminster he kept it mysterious (and its a good thing) so i'm going with the assumption that she has "only" Silverfire.

I seem to recall El saying that when he uses spellfire it taxes him overmuch (all shadows fled?), so its not like chosen can absorb a spellfire attack like a natural spellfire wielder can absorb magical attacks.

There is discussion of this in the Cult of the Dragon sourcebook:

Advanced Silver Fire Use: After his researches into the nature of silver fire, Sammaster possessed such skill with his silver fire that he could make use of all the abilities detailed as spellfire powers in the Spellfire section of the Magic of the Person chapter in Volos Guide to All Things Magical.
