3.5 my player is making a Cleric of Gond / Artificer Im working on his spell selection and we're in debate as to the Summmon Monster chains. I see no connection to summoning creature to fight for you being the domain of creation, unless we're assuming you created said meat-shield for that purpose. Any comments?

You can't create if you're busy fighting, so make someone else do it for you.

My understanding is that the summon monster spells summon a creature that already exists (even if it's in another plane), rather than creating a new creature.

I can see an argument for "creating an obstacle" or "producing an ally" and using summoning spells to do it... especially since there's probably a lack of creation-oriented spells, particularly for clerics. It's maybe a difference of the letter vs the spirit of creation.

Whether you want to disallow clerics of Gond (or anyone else) from summoning creatures is up to you. But I would agree that summoning isn't the same thing as creating... if we're being literal.

But then maybe creation-oriented spells should be made available to the player which accomplish the same ends through the appropriate means.

Just my 2 kinda abstract coppers.
