That's more than I know. Tough a moonblade wielder can crate an elfgate anywhere.

Nice compilation, scramasax.
And Quale, in fact the elfgate created by Arylin's moonblade was not a common power, nor one that is easily worked with. A moonblade's power arises when it takes a new wielder, and the blade's owner doesn't choose the nature of this power.

(SPOILERS BELOW)
Specifically in the case of the mother of Arylin (princess Amnestria), since she had a strong connection with Bran Skorlsun, a human ranger from the mainland, and so the power manifested as a portal between her current place and the island of Evermeet. She had no control over its creation, and could not move the gate, that since then became sort of a menace to the island's impregnability. That's one of the basis of the Elfshadow novel, and the creation of a gate to Evermeet should not be taken lightly.

Back then, only a few gates existed to Evermeet, and then only in elven-dominated areas. Supposedly, gates in areas abandoned by the elves - and vulnerable to intruders - should be somehow closed. Of course, things have changed from the time of this book's publishing until now, but I think the moonfighter ability to create portals haven't changed.

Edit: Hiding spoilers properly
