Just because I mentioned it in another thread... what information do we know about Katashaka? I'm just making a list below based on what I gathered from the Grand History of the Realms
Tabaxi tribes are fairly common
The tabaxi of Katashaka worship Olurobo and his children (the nyama-nummo
The nyama-nummo seem to be the equivalent of nature spirits in reference, so I'd imagine spirit shamans are common
The Sleeper is the greatest of the nyama-nummo and appears to be a tarrasque...or something similar to Godzilla. Long ago the Sleeper had the tabaxi attack Mhairshaulk.
The Sleeper stays in the Palace of Alliz-Dren
matumbe is "the forbidden magic" and was used to destroy the Sleeper by a Tabaxi. Ubtao delivered the power of matumbe to that Tabaxi.
****************** Homebrew
I'm picturing a colony of psionic shapeshifters fitting in well there. Maybe doppelgangers. Maybe the Uthraki found in Rashemen (they're apelike). They have a high charisma, so possibly not psions but rather wilders. Also, having them be binders might be interesting too.

I automatically use the Nyambe setting for Katashaka, although in my current game I will probably go with Xendrik (which means not just imagining another setting overlayed on it - actually going with Xendrik itself).
They should really give FR Xendrik in 5e - "The Realms killed Eberron and took its stuff".
Other then that, I've really given almost no thought to what the 'real' Katashaka might be like. We might not even get a katashaka come 5e (which would be fine by me - its not like Maztica that actually had some development to it)
As for the Tabaxi Lore - I say that blurb in Races of Faerūn refers to the island to the east of Katashaka (since Katshaka is way too big to ever be called an island). I even named it 'Tabaxiland' on a couple of maps. I also had some lore to go with the redundant name (Tabaxi humans and Tabaxi catfolk). |

Australia is considered the world's largest island or smallest continent. Just a thought ;) |

I'm weary about there being some actual degree of truth with this. Since Keith Baker's somewhat dire announcement late last year that no new DDI material for EBERRON was coming from Wizards in the foreseeable future, I'm starting to become a little curious about what's to happen to all the cool stuff EBERRON brought to the gaming development table. |

I've taken to using Katashaka as a place to put other setting's races; most notably it's the center of power for warcraft-style trolls, who're the dominant race there in my home game. Instead of tabaxi I use elder scrolls-style khajiit, though I use the pahtfinder catfolk write up for them. Also from pathfinder I have significant populations of grippli, nagaji, strix, and vanara. There's also a sizable population of bullywugs that I've used for the hylek culture from Guild Wars 2.
Speaking of, I'm planning on placing the Guild Wars asura on Katashara, most likely as a subterranean race that's just on the verge of emerging to the surface, but I'm still working out the kinks with their magitech. |

THE D&D DM in me would love to see 5e create an amalgam world like I have done several times - I can TOTALLY geek-out over that.
The GH/FR/Mystara/etc fan in me is aghast at such an idea - I feel we will lose so much more then we we will gain. As much as I love the idea of a unified D&D setting, I think it may just alienate fans even further. Once you do that, there really is no turning back.
On the other hand, I think PRESENTATION is everything. I think that theoretically there could be a 'good' way to do this, and make it all palatable. I am 99% positive that had Ed been in charge of the setting decisions in 4e, nearly the same exact 'finished product' could have been achieved, with a lot less backlash. This is what I am hoping for in 5e, regardless of what they do or don't put into FR.
Geeeee... I think I just somehow gave the impression that Ed is the 'snake-oil salesman' of RPG settings. LOL
But seriously, its not always WHAT you say, but HOW you say it. Now that I've met the man in person, I can honestly say what I assumed about him was correct - he can sell you anything. Its all about how you spin things. |

Are you talking about the amalgam maps you've presented in the past that try to place most of the major continents from the various TSR worlds on the one planet?
Because if so, I always loved them! |
