I was going to start reading American Gods, but I kept getting distracted (various last-minute holiday preparations). Which has turned out to be a good thing, since one of the gifts my sister got me for Christmas is The Adversary, by Erin M. Evans. (I've got the greatest little sister in the world! ) |

This is a great book. The follow up, Anansi Boys, is even better.
I received an updated copy of Carl Sagan's Cosmos, with a new foreword by Neil deGrasse Tyson, from my mother for Christmas, so I'm sitting down with a beer and some pumpkin pie to read it. |

Just finished Fritz Leiber's Swords Against Death. Classic. Love Leiber's use of the language to give the story that gritty S&S feel.
Started Peter Brett's The Warded Man yesterday. Also going to finish Paul Kemp's Twilight Wars trilogy over the next two or three weeks (about halfway through Shadowbred already - loving it). |

Finished with The Scorpion.
And with the hype over the upcoming release of the first issue of Marvel's Wolverine: Origin II, I've decided to re-tackle the first Origin series this weekend.

Highly recommend going back and making your way through the two trilogies and the two short stories about Cale's background (which I believe are included in the omnibus). |

I generally don't do the New Year's Resolution thing... But I set one for 2013.
I have a bad habit of going to the bookstore, buying like three books, reading two of them, and then letting the other one sit for a while -- sometimes years. ^^;
So for 2013, I resolved to read more books that I'd not read before, as opposed to re-reading familiar ones. This was occasionally annoying, getting in the way of rereads I really wanted to do, so I shan't repeat this one. I will try to keep the ratio of rereads and new reads from getting terribly skewed, but I'm not going to sweat it to the point I did this year. Especially since there's a new book in the Dresden Files coming out, and I tend to reread the whole series when a new one comes out.
The tally for the year: 72 books completed, and 50 of them were ones I was reading for the first time.
My top ten new books for this year, in no particular order, and listing an entire series instead of each book in the series:
Ready Player One The Rook Ex-Heroes/Ex-Patriots/Ex-Communication The Count of Monte Cristo Year Zero The Second Ship/Immune/Wormhole William Shakespeare's Star Wars Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore The Princess Bride the Codex Alera |

Well, I have already read the first trilogy twice...I'll go back and read the twilight war again sometime. I've seen those short stories, I liked the third that wasn't in the omnibus better than one of the ones that was.
On an entirely different note, wound up with a copy of Georges St Pierre's The Way of the Fight for Christmas, finished that. Kind of repetitive and dull. |

My reading's been kind of slow over the holiday break, but I managed to finish at least two "books" -- the first being a catch-up of about twenty or so Amazing Spider-Man issues I hadn't previously read from 2011/2012. And the second, which I'll finish today, is a short book titled What Jung Really Said. It's a reprint of an earlier 60's book I read some years ago, but there's some added material in this newer edition, so I thought it worth a re-read.
Not sure what I'll head into next. |

| So I started on Blood and Bone , a Malazan novel by Ian Esselmont. Its definitely better than his previous work and not quite as ponderous as Steven Erissions books. Ian's stuff is a good intro into the Malazan series for newbies. |

Oooo! I've got the first book in my "To-Read" stack. The Lady K's a definitive fan of this series, so she treated me to a special edition copy of the first book for Christmas.
It'll probably be my next read after Moriarty. |

It was published by Image Comics between 2010 and 2012. There are two trade-paperbacks collecting the entirety of the series [nine issues] currently available too.
I won't spoil too much of it, should you wish to track it down and read it for yourself. But I will note that if you're expecting some great answers to the questions of just who Moriarty was, and what is ambition was truly aimed at, you'll be left wondering even more so after the end of this series. |
