Too all Sanderson fans:

Any of you have read Steelheart yet? Care to share your thoughts? Bought a copy yesterday but promised to myself not to open it until Sunday, when I'd be relatively free to read (and, in case I'd love it as I did The Mistborn trilogy, re-read). Shame they couldn't release a hardcover. Oh well, trade paperback is still better than mass market.

Finished reading Burning Chrome, and have started reading The Big U by Neal Stephenson, on the recommendations of a couple of my dad's friends. (So much for reading The Elfstones of Shannara before the end of the year.)

Since I finished up with the Green Lantern TPB, I've read the latest issue of No Quarter, and I'm now back to fiction novels with a re-read of The Way of the Clans... the first book in the "Legend of Jade Phoenix" trilogy.

I'll note that I actually can't remember the last time I read this BATTLETECH trilogy.

Been thinking of revisiting that one, myself.
Not even sure why I chose to re-read it, actually. It's just been sitting in my stacks for so long, that I thought it would be kind of neat to work my way through it again. [Even though I'm not really a fan of the Jade Falcons.]

Those books, the Stackpole books, the ones about Wolf's Dragoons, and the two books about the Cappie Death Commando that joins the Northwind Highlanders are some of my fave BTech novels.
I generally try to re-read all the BT novels ... even those that weren't really that worthwhile. There's always some little gem or tidbit of information that I missed during a prior read-thru that I can usually file away for later usage in my games.

Not yet. But I still have so many other Sanderson books to get through before I reach Steelheart.

That, and the fact that I'm still not completely sold on the plot of this book, is probably keeping it a delayed read for me.

I'm on the second book in House of Chains. Does this section take place concurrently with Felisin's imprisonment on the otataral isle?

Upon reflection, though, I have to admit: I rarely wait for all of a series before getting into it. I prefer to read as the books are coming out, so I can decide whether or not to keep going.
Agreed. Besides, one to four years alone (the standard waiting time for each installment of fantasy series) is long enough. Imagine waiting seven (or more) times than that.

Yeah that is true enough especially since I am one of those types that once starts a series has to finish it!

Been waaay to busy to read as furiously as I want; but I just finished 'Moonwalking with Einstein' (about memory, recall, and world memory championships), and am going to start 'The Once and Future King', since I've been in disgrace as a fantasy fan and have never read it.

I've never read the latter book, either. I started it once, but was immediately distracted by something else.

I finished Return of the King last night. I started A Feast for Crows this morn. I shall likely need to read a couple light-hearted books after this one!

Edit: Holy mother, the typo demon had hit me on this post!

Finished with Way of the Clans a few days back.

I've now moved on to The Library at Night by Alberto Manguel. It's a [so far] brilliant analysis of one reader's relationship with a [as well as his own] library, and the many different types of libraries that have been constructed through history.

The Hammer & The Blade, by some guy named Paul Kemp.

He's not too shabby... not too shabby at all.
FR fans should definitely read it - if feels familiar.

Just finished How Firm a Foundation by David Weber just before that. Its book V of his Safehold series. I highly recommend it if you like ship battles. Its like Game of Thrones on the high seas.

Actually, he kills-off a lot of main characters - at least one in each book. Perhaps not as bad as GoT, but still, he does it.

Yeah - the 'sex' is all wholesome and pure (and pretty-much non-existent). Plus 'Merlin' is a major-league McGuffin.

Still, very enjoyable; looking forward to reading the next one in the series. Love his attention to detail with the ship-to-ship stuff.

As for my current read (Paul's novel), he has some very interesting takes on magic, amongst other things. Lots of cool things going on - not the Fafrhd/Gray Mouser knock-off I expected (the vibe for the characters, yes, but everything else, not so much). The good/evil thing is nicely ambiguous (not so B&W).

Finished reading The Big U yesterday, and have no idea what I'm going to read now. I know I'm not going to be reading The Elfstones of Shannara or The Wishsong of Shannara, unless I get my own copies of said books. (Because I'm having a few... issues with my DM, I figure I should return his books before I leave my gaming group.)

Well my brother read the first one and then did not touch the rest for two years. I frankly read all of them in one go though admittedly I did not want to read anything serious for a long time after that.

Just borrowed American Gods, by Neil Gaiman, from one of my dad's friends. He's also going to write up a list of fantasy and sci-fi books that he has recommended to me (he's writing the list because I keep forgetting the titles of half the novels he recommends -__-').

That one was okay, but I enjoyed the sequel, Anansi Boys, a lot more.

Nice!

I finally finished Masquerades. I read some non-realms non-fantasy stuff in between trying to finish that, I got to the last 60 pages to find that the copy I have doesn't actually contain the last 60 pages--it contains the last 30 twice. Derp. At least it wasn't the second to last 30 (without the ending) twice, because that would have been really annoying.

Now maybe I'll finally finish The Godborn. I put it off til i was at a point where i wasnt 1) crazy busy and 2) splitting reading time between a handful of books. I've been oddly compelled to tackle Les Miserables lately, though (although it will probably take me more than all of 2014 to do that). Given the massive guilty pleasure that the musical is for me, I know absolutely nothing of the book.

My wife absolutely loves the musical... She really didn't appreciate it when I referred to the recent movie as "that miserable movie" -- and then pointed out that it must be an accurate description, since "miserable" is in the title!

So I finished with The Library at Night, then went on to a Leonardo da Vinci biography, before now settling on the First Scroll of the "Clan War" series of novels for 'The Legend of the Five Rings' -- The Scorpion.

It's a re-read for me, going back to when it was first released for my last read. So I felt it was about time to hit this series again.
