And finished!

This tragedy still remains a powerful tale of treachery, bloodlust, and greed. It's definitely been a comforting read to sooth my mood over the last two days.

Now I'm back to other fiction... and finishing up Phoenix Rising, the first book of the "Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences" series.

It's a neat book, and I've come away from it with several new ideas for I'd like to incorporate into similar fortified locales that I've set up around the Inner Sea of the Realms.

Next up ... Hmmm. I don't know yet.

holy crap sage.you read very quickly.takes me ages just to read a realms novel.
Really? And here I was thinking that my four day reading cycle for a 64 page sourcebook was slow.

And, as it happens, after I returned home from work, I found a copy of Towns of the Inner Sea waiting in my mailbox.

Halfway through Deathwatch by Steve Parker, its very different from the earlier Deathwatch novels, more story and character driven. Its quite good so far.

I quite enjoyed the first two books, myself, and I'm eagerly waiting for the third. What did you think of the first one?

Just finished Stephen King's "11/22/63"

Fantastic book! This, along with his "Doctor Sleep" have really made my day!

Next up? "Moonwalking with Einstein." A book on memory building once started by the Greeks.

Reading Paul S. Kemp’s Resurrection, the conclusion to the six-part, multi-author War of the Spider Queen series. Loving it so far (and not letting the negative reviews ruin my reading experience).

Pharaun has always been my favorite in the series. A drow (wizard) with a sense of humor and who consistently taunts the priestesses (who are supposed to be his superiors) is a breath of fresh air. Though I now have another favorite: Matron Mother Yasraena of House Agrach Dyrr.

This line of hers would surely endear her to all [insert Maleficent laugh]:

“Should I so much as suspect treachery or half-efforts, you will be flayed to death, resurrected, and flayed anew. That process will continue indefinitely until my anger is sated. Do not doubt my resolve.”

Every beginning has an end.

Not much time for an in-depth analysis at the moment, but I will note that I found the first book to be a fascinating read. I felt really comfortable with the characters of Books and Braun. Like I'd known and read about them for years. Which is strange for new characters being introduced to their world in an introductory novel of a series. I didn't have to slowly get a feel for either of them.

Good stuff!

Mental note:- I finished up the book realising that I had more in common with Wellington Books than I'd initially thought I would.

So, finished with Phoenix Rising.

And now it's back to comic books with the hardcover edition of Marvel's Doctor Strange: Season One.

Not really a fan of Greg Pak's writing, but I love Emma Rios's art, and Strange has always been a favourite character of mine. So it'll be interesting to see how this modern retelling of the good Doctor's origin, works.

OK, just got back from lounging on the beach in the Dominican Republic. Didn't get as much reading done as I had hoped but I:

1) Finished Brimstone Angels: Lesser Evils by Erin Evans. Great book. I really enjoyd the first one and this was even better.

2) Read And Another Thing... by Eoin Colfer. This was the final book in Douglas Adams Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series (authorized by his estate after his passing). Pretty good. Not as good as Adams stuff, but overall a fun book.

3) Read A Pleasure to Burn a collection of shor stories by Ray Bradbury related to his novel Farenheit 451. Great collection, but I maybe biased as Bradbury is one of my all-time favorites.

Next up for me is The Adversary by Erin Evans (when my pre-ordered copy shows up on my Kindle).

And finished with Doctor Strange: Season One. It was okay, though, I'm too nostalgic for Ditko's Doctor Strange to really give this anything more than a diversionary nod of respect.

I do believe it would make a worthwhile plot for a silver-screen adaptation of the Sorcerer Supreme, however.

...

Now I'm done with that one, I think I'll keep with the comic books and tackle the first volume of the Green Lantern: Sector 2814 TPB.

I'm 80 pages in and its definitely a slow build. Its also a mix between scifi and fantasy which I don't really prefer, but hopefully the fantasy will overshadow the scifi.

I don't really mind the mix as long as the stories good. I'll be interested to see what you think once you've finished.

Currently? The Crystal Shard. I always had the Icewind Dale trilogy, but never read them. Was always too busy reading the Elminster series.

I'm most of the way the The Two Towers. I'll likely finish it this eve.

Not sure what I'll read after I get done with the next book... I'm thinking it's time to get back to the Game of Thrones books -- I took a long break after the third book.

Ya know, I still have not read any Game Of Thrones novels. But I kind of like being behind on series books for one reason. By time I actually pick one up, the series has at least 4-5 books now. So that means I will not have to wait whilst reading them. Also, the lack of readin the first book and having to wait for the second, third, etc is---I don't know what I'm missing. so I can easily wait for a good long while!

Great minds think alike.
I often do the same and on that note am reading Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novak.

I've gotten into several series after they were out... I started Harry Potter when book 5 came out, I started Game of Thrones when book 5 came out, I started the Dresden Files around book 8, I didn't read the Codex Alera until all the books were out... Others, I've followed from the start, like when the Death's Gate Cycle came out.

I did read Harry potter SORT of when it first came out, maybe around Chamber Of Secrets. Actually no, I was wrong. I started on Sorcerers Stone. Anyway I still need to read more Dresden, my dad is HUGE into those books. I don't blame him though, he's quite a character.

Upon reflection, though, I have to admit: I rarely wait for all of a series before getting into it. I prefer to read as the books are coming out, so I can decide whether or not to keep going.

Harry Potter I was fairly unaware of until book 3 or 4, and I decided to check it out when 5 came out -- and that was after speaking with a couple of folks who'd read the books, and then borrowing them. I did make the mistake of going to the bookstore several hours before a midnight release, once!

Game of Thrones I was similarly not really aware of before about book 4. I kinda knew it was out there, but wasn't all that interested until book 5 came out. That was when I decided to give the first book a try.

I had no knowledge at all of the Dresden Files, until I was reading Elaine Cunningham's (now non-existent) novel review blog one day, and she mentioned the newest book. I looked into them, pinged a friend with similar taste in books, and went out and bought the first book. I wound up buying and reading the rest of them in the following weeks.

Since I finished up with the Green Lantern TPB, I've read the latest issue of No Quarter, and I'm now back to fiction novels with a re-read of The Way of the Clans... the first book in the "Legend of Jade Phoenix" trilogy.

I'll note that I actually can't remember the last time I read this BATTLETECH trilogy.

Agreed. Besides, one to four years alone (the standard waiting time for each installment of fantasy series) is long enough. Imagine waiting seven (or more) times than that.

It's not so bad Dennis, especially waiting when you don't know about the book. Or if you do, you only know snippets of information. Usually if I am interested, I will read small excerpts to see if I will like the book as a whole.

Been thinking of revisiting that one, myself. Those books, the Stackpole books, the ones about Wolf's Dragoons, and the two books about the Cappie Death Commando that joins the Northwind Highlanders are some of my fave BTech novels.

I've still not gotten around around to replacing all of those books... I had the entire run of pre-Jihad novels, and most of them (with The Sword and the Dagger being a notable exception) I'd gotten as they were coming out.

Well, I discovered the Dresden Files before I was married, and I've been married for 5 years, now. And there are still more books in that queue: the author has said he wants to make it a 20 book series, followed by an "apocalyptic" trilogy.

Right now, we're waiting for the release date for the 15th book to be announced.
