Next up, The Last Threshold, the final book in the Neverwinter Saga by R.A. Salvatore.
Read Neverwinter Tales last night and thought it was OK. But not really as good as the novels so far. I also started The Last Threshold. Looking forward to seeing how this all ends. |

Reading the Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, its a good book but I feel he spends too much time on the character backgrounds and not enough on the actual story.
Agreed. Nine more books to go.
If he ever gets around to actually writing them that is.
Sanderson just noted a few days ago on his Twitter feed that he's almost finished writing the second book, with just an epilogue and some minor tweaking to carry out before he's completely done.
Thanks for the good news Sage. Despite my complaints i genuinely enjoyed this book and will be glad to get my hands on its sequel. |

I'm looking forward to Words of Radiance. The Way of Kings was definitely one of my favourite reads of 2012, so I'm hopeful that the next book will succeed in much the same fashion. |

Actually i believe that we can expect the second book to surpass the first as all the foundation work for this exciting series has been done and we can finally get to the meat of the action. |

| Just finished A Crown Imperiled by Raymond Feist. Another good book in this series, I was particular glad to see Nakor resurrected (well sort off anyway) and back to his old antics. The ending last me eagerly anticipating what happens next. |

Indeed. Though I suspect his existence is just temporary, and probably at the end of the series, he would be dead again, for good, so would Miranda and whole lot more of beloved characters. |

I’m reading Return to Ravnica: The Secretist, Part One by Doug Beyer. How sad. It’s so short. This appears to be just one novel released in three parts. And it’s e-book only. MtG is going down a very rocky road . . .
Though I suppose better this than nothing at all. It’s good to see Jace Beleren back and to see Ravnica again. The plot is classic MtG and the characters are (so far) proving to be interesting. I’m halfway through, and I’m looking forward to see Jace kicking a dragon’s arse for a change. |

Unfortunately I believe you are right about this. Certainly Feist has been hinting that this sad fate is what the future holds for Pug and the name of the latest book , Magicians End, is not very comforting either. |

The Night of the Swarm (Chathrand Voyage #4), this book could use an editor, the plot advances very slowly.
Also Chronicle of the Righteous (Pathfinder), so far disappointing, starts with a cliche archon of protection and a grandmother archon. |

Just finished the Farseer Trilogy from Robin Hobb. Enjoyed it....second first person perspective fantasy series I've read (still prefer third person...jus sayin).
Halfway through James A Owen's series on the Imaginarium Geographica, Here There Be Dragons. My first YA series...well done this far. |

I just finished Casino Royale. I did not care for it, at all... The plot was very straightforward, Bond's character was not really explored, and what exploration there was did not make him all that interesting or likable. How this became a franchise of books, movies, and video games is quite beyond me.
The book also didn't really have all that much in the way of spy stuff -- at least, not the tradecraft I was expecting. It was more movie spy stuff (looking good, getting the beautiful girl, drinking and eating well, etc), minus the really cool gadgets Bond always has in the movies.
Next up is a superhero-zombie apocalypse mashup, Ex-Heroes. I'm really hoping it doesn't disappoint the way Casino Royale and Dune did. Since it's new and not some supposed classic of the genre, that shouldn't be an issue. |

I'm barely started into this book, and I already like it more than Casino Royale. I'm no fan of the zombie apocalypse genre, but so far, I'm liking this book. The premise is that a bunch of survivors of the zombie apocalypse have holed up in a film studio in Hollywood, which they have fortified, and are trying to survive and hold out against the "exes" -- the people in the book call them that, from "ex-people" or "ex-living"; it was apparently from a speech by the President of the US when the whole thing got started. A couple of the chapters have been flash-backs to the origin stories of the superheroes that are in the Mount (the film studio) with the survivors.
The part of the book I'm in now, some of the heroes and some of the regular survivors are venturing into the remains of LA looking for supplies and food. One of the characters was having a conversation with The Mighty Dragon (one of the heroes) about whether or not Spider-Man could beat him in a fight! I liked that.
There are also apparently other groups of survivors in LA, but I'm not far enough into the book to know more, yet.
There's also a hero who was capable of regeneration, until he was bitten by one of the exes. Now his arm is zombiefied, and his healing factor is balanced out by keeping that from spreading further.
Quite interesting, thus far. |

Okay, I just read another part where they were comparing which zombiefied celebrities each had killed. One guy earned major credit by having killed the zombie Alex Trebek.
It's also interesting that in this book, the zombie virus doesn't kill people -- it just inhibits decay and causes the victim to get up and walk around after dying. In fact, everyone alive is infected with this virus. The reason the bites kill people is because when someone dies and then bites someone else, that person gets every disease the previous person has. Then, when person 2 bites person 3, person 3 gets all of the diseases from persons 1 and 2... And so on. So the bites are dumping so many diseases into the victims that they die from their immune system being overwhelmed -- and then the ex-virus takes over their body. |

Wow, you're a late arrival to that party! Have you already seen the movies?
I generally re-read those books every summer, though with this year's New Year's Resolution to read more new books than re-reads, I don't know that it'll happen this year.
I didn't start reading those books, myself, until sometime after either the 4th or 5th book came out. And I think it was the release of the 6th book when I made the mistake of going to the bookstore... My then-girlfriend (now wife) and I were out and about one eve, and I suddenly wanted to go to the bookstore, because I'd not been in a while... When I had to park a block away, I realized something was up. When we got to the place and saw all the Harry Potter attire and activities, then I realized what was going on. I don't recall if I bought anything that night or not, but we didn't linger overlong -- I already had the book on order from Amazon, and I'm no fan of crowds. I did get a free pair of Harry Potter glasses, though. I'm a huge fan of that which is free. |

Well, I always prefer to read series strait through and can't stand waiting a year for the next book to come out. I've seen the movies through Goblet, so I really can't wait to read the books AFTER that point. Thought the book was great and I really appreciate how it probably hooks younger readers onto the fantasy genre. |

Some of the names are pretty weird, but I love most of them and think they fit perfectly with the setting. I got a nice set of Bloomsbury massmarket paperbacks that came in this cool box. |

Finished reading it yesterday. A little bit disappointing. The inconsistencies of the depiction of Jace is so glaring and irritating. One would think that being a pivotal part of the creative team for MtG, Beyer should be able to flesh out Jace well—but he’d be wrong. Well, at least he managed to substantially show what happened to the guilds when the Guildpact was gone. It’s all for himself now. And not even the lawmages are able to keep peace and order. Not that they always did prior to the Guildpact’s obliteration; but it got worse.
Beyer introduced some characters that are a bit interesting. I really just hope he’d get Jace right in the sequel, Gatecrash. |

Just hearing about Harry Potter makes me nostalgic, I wish there was some way I could read this series for the 'first time' again and experience the same feeling of wonder I did as a child. Hope you enjoy it Entreri. Starting on the Outcast Dead in the Horus Heresy series by Graham McNeill. The best scene of far is when the astropaths first receive the message informing them that the Imperial counter strike force has been massacred on Isstavan and then chaos breaks out as people do not know how to cope with such disastrous news. |
