Finished book 1 of the Erevis Cale Trilogy. Quite enjoyed it! Cale's a greatly interesting man, and I enjoy a thorough use of the FR gods in the story without the unnecessary need for all to be in a priest's cassock to tell their story.

Onto Swords of Eveningstar!

One may say his death had been long overdue. But still, it’s sad to see him die, knowing he did it for the right reasons. It could have been mostly due to Ban-ath’s manipulations, and even that he admitted to be the likely case, but he did it anyway. Sacrifice himself, that is.

If it’s any consolation, there’s a little twist to his death that you will soon find out in the Chaoswar saga.

You mean Vasen?

I thought of him as Midkemia’s version of Manshoon, albeit less annoying.

But I must say that the destruction of Kelewan came as a shock, I was hoping till the last moment that it would somehow be saved. I kind of preferred it to Midekemia to be honest.
Really? Hmm, I’m on the opposite fence, but that’s likely because I haven’t picked up the Empire trilogy yet. Though quite frankly, I’m not much of a fan of ancient Japanese or Chinese-inspired cultures, save Samurai X. Besides, Kelewan was just the bigger version of Kesh, minus the Great Ones, of course.

Every beginning has an end.

Hmm I am pretty sure his name is Leso Varen, yup it is. Unless wikipedia is lying to me.. Good riddance either way.

I did not feel that Kelewan was that simliar to Kesh, Kesh had more of an Egyptian feel to it while Kelewan was more of an Asian culture. Perhaps I can relate more to it being Asian myself.
Hmm another twist about Nakor sounds interesting, I ll look forward to that in the next book.

You’re right about Leso Varen. It’s just that I use Sidi more often. Damn the s.

On Kelewan: Maybe I’m not really an Asian because I can hardly relate to it?

On Nakor: I hope you’ll like that twist. (Though I’ve heard many people [fans and haters(?) alike] complain about it. Can’t please everybody, can we?)

My bad, I did not mean to imply that Filipino's are not Asians.
Let me elaborate on my earlier point, I belong to the Rajput community in India , a race of renowned warriors who never managed to conquer the country because we were too caught up in our own petty feuds and stiff-necked honor. We have a fierce pride in lineage and tradition.
Does all this sound a little familiar?
That is why I felt I could relate a bit to the Tsurani.

And I belong to a race who fought wars against the Spaniards for over a hundred years and more bloody wars against the stubborn Japs. But that's history.

Really, it's okay. I was just kidding earlier.

I'm hardly patriotic anyway. I serve myself first and foremost; others last.

I’m now on chapter 4 of The Spectral Blaze, Book III of The Brotherhood of the Griffon series by Richard Lee Byers. I must admit, I’m starting to regret my original decision (two years ago) to skip this book because of all the “dragonborn crap.” There are more, quite more to it than dragonborn crap.

There are few writers who perfected the art of politics and intrigue in storytelling. And I consider Richard to be one of them.

Every beginning has an end.

Glad you're liking it, Dennis.

Having finally made it through A Dance With Dragons (that's not disparagement of the book's quality, which is high, simply a consequence of its length), I'm on into The Man with the Golden Torc by Simon R. Green.

I am reading for the first time, The Erevis Cale Trilogy. I am not sure why I had put it off so long, but holy crap. I am really enjoying it (even knowing what happens to Cale eventually).

You and me both. (Although, I don't know what happens to Erevis, so no specific spoilers!

That said, I really loved the read of the first book. A great flavor that I highly enjoy, especially in a FR novel.

I'm almost finished with Dragons of Summer Flame, and though I was planning on immediately continuing into the Lost Souls trilogy, I find myself wanting a break from Krynn... I'm not sure what I'm going to read yet, but I'm leaning towards a re-read of Ready Player One. I normally don't re-read books that quickly, but I really, really enjoyed that one! It's a book I can't recommend highly enough, especially if you like the 80's -- so much of the book comes from 80's music, movies, and games.

I have just finished 'Swords of Eveningstar.'

I feel quite disappointed in this novel, and did not enjoy it in the reading. I will be taking a good break from the series before deciding if, and ever, I wish to continue it.

Going to go back and forth between 'Neverwinter' and 'Dream Spheres' for now.

Halfway into City in the Autumn Stars. This reminds me of Lord of the Rings, in so far as the lyrical beauty of the prose goes.

Starting Robert Newcomb's A March Into Darkness. It's been a few years since I read his other books, so I wonder how many details I've forgotten.

Just finished reading Neil Gaiman's Odd and the Frost Giants to my five year old Tristan and now he wants me to read him The Hobbit, so how can that not be next?

So my schedule was unexpectedly changed, and I couldn't stay up last night to finish Blind God's Bluff, as I'd planned. I instead finished it this morn. Next up is a shot in the dark, The Templar Conspiracy. I've read mixed reviews on it, but I decided to go ahead and give it a shot, since I already bought it! Plus, it adds to my quota of new reads... Really beginning to wish, though, that I'd not made that New Year's resolution! I'm wanting to revisit some of my old faves, or at least read all the books of a particular series at once, instead of as they came out.

Finished Le Guin's Earthsea Trilogy about a week or so ago. I did not enjoy it much at all.

Since then, I have read Neil Gaiman's American Gods. And am about to start in on Anansi Boys.

The Templar Conspiracy... Hmmm. Is that the book which tries to reveal evidence that the Templars secretly found the Americas?

Anansi Boys is a particular favourite. And not only because it's Gaiman. It's just a fantastic story overall, and one that has certainly found a place in my yearly re-read stacks.

I should have liked American Gods more, but for whatever reason at that point in my life, I just didn't. However Anansi was great!!

***

Just finished RAS' 'Neverwinter.'

Yes, 2 books behind in that, but I'm bored with that setting, the antagonists, the sense of depression and failure that is the Realms. Between that and Elminster Must Die/Bury Deep, no wonder this 4E stuff blows (in my mind).

The best part of the book is honestly just watching Drizz't go through his 1st mid-life crisis as he faces the centuries of living as an elf. His conversations are far better than the actual plot!

**

Reading Dream Spheres again. *sighs* love it. I also found out recently for myself that there was a Best of... Elaine Cunningham book out, and the library has it! Cannot wait to voraciously read that and bemoan the loss of those great characters and stories...

Nah, it's a fictitious thriller. Me and non-fiction are rarely to be found in the same place. I can only take non-fiction in small quantities, a few pages at a time.
