Hi all,
today I would like to know anything canon with you about goblinoid diets.
As far as I know from entries etc.
Goblins: as long as you do not die from it, cou can eat it. even if you die from it, you have a full belly first ( i.e. Elminsters ecologies, example given they even eat dirt to fill their bellies if necessary )
Bugbears: Meat preferrably, also not caring about the meat coming from humanoids or not, or if raw or cooked.
Hobgoblins: Different here, some texts like 3e and elminsters ecologies about the highmoor ones states "similar to humans" so at least no "cannibalism" or eating of humanoid flesh. In 2e entries and some adventures though, it is stated they eat anything they can get a hold off. And, that they have a specific taste for horse-flesh.

I thought the Goblinoid diet was described as 'whatever moves slower then a hungry goblin'.  |

| Some goblinoids are also cannibalistic. If they won't eat other goblinoids they'll certainly eat humans/demihumans (halflings in particular, of course). Goblinoids (from goblins to orcs) are all noted for distinctly carnivorous preferences. I imagine their diet is basically at (or slightly beyond) the most vile and disgusting and extreme threshold of human tolerance. Think ye of what other cultures of humans routinely eat that you consider disgusting, and what populations of starving humans will do to eat in times of hardship, and what even the most hungry humans will never eat ... then consider that a hungry goblin will not hesitate to act as inhumanly as necessary to obtain a meal. |

Some orcs are moon-worshipping hippy vegans, too. Clearly not representative of all goblinoids.
I wonder what goblinoids what eat in our culture? |

So basically, Orcs/goblinoids are as diverse as everyone else.
I guess that proves they are 'people'.
There are instances of both elves and dwarves being cannibals, and we all know halflings are the worst (Athas and to a lesser degree Eberron). Don't know about gnomes... they are just creepy.
Although, come to think of it, a little chime just went off in my head... something about a wrecked (SJ) ship and a crazed survivor...
I just had an odd thought, not really related to the thread topic, but related to the above - do Wendgos only form when humans become cannibals? If not, The North should be filled with Wendigos. |
