Poll Question:
The title of a book draws a reader as much as its cover and blurb. Some stories do not live up to their titles and blurbs, and vice versa. But at times, or maybe most often, the interesting sound of a title resonates the quality of the story.
So, what do you think is the catchiest title of all?

Despite my love for "The Shield of Weeping Ghosts" and such less obvious titles like "Elfshadow," the catchiest title, hands down, has to be SPELLFIRE. Being as TSR "borrowed" it straightaway for the name of a card game, it has been swiped for use as the title of no less than FOURTEEN bodice-ripper novels since, it was the codename for both some prelease software and a concept car, and it's even the name of a perfume. In these days of litigation, companies don't steal names lightly. love, THO P.S. It was Ed's creation, of course. Like so much else we now take for granted as just part of the game. |

I voted Unholy. Just one word, but rings and reverberates with dread, malevolence, and the unknown---exactly what the story is about. |

I had to go with the The Ring of Winter. I remember when I first saw that book for sale, I thought to myself "Hmmm, what is the Ring of Winter? What does it do? Is it good, evil or neither? Well, only one way to find out..."
That and the cover art was cool. |

Insurrection When I picked the book and looked at the cover I found myself saying it loud with a deeper voice.... Like Darth's one... |

I'm going to say Elfshadow, primarily, because the title itself suggested something in my mind that I wouldn't have ordinarily picked up on, due to the fact that I've never been all that inclined toward reading about elves.
Spellfire comes a very close second because... of, well, "Spellfire!," really. How cool a concept is that? |

Lies of Light, The Fractured Sky, and The Shield of Weeping Ghosts are products of great imagination. Said titles are truly attention-grabbing. But life’s full of irony. The first two did not exactly reflect the stories, which are quite disappointing. [And that’s putting it mildly.] |

The tradegy from that book...and the entire trilogy, is that you will never recover the lost time you spent reading them. |

I wouldn't consider it lost time entirely. Some, yes, but definitely not all. Though I dislike that it features so little Netherese lore, an ironic thing for a series named Netheril Trilogy, there are bits and pieces in the books that are quite interesting and memorable. |

Of the six in the series, I like Dissolution the most, followed by Comdemnation and Insurrection.

Even if it becomes Light of Lies, it would still sound intriguing, though perchance not as compelling. |

That's why I work overnights.
Wait. What are we talking about again?
I had a lot of teachers in school who would take points off on papers if you didn't give them a title, so I always took the grade deduction, never being able to slap something pithy, accurate, witty or some combination of those on anything that didn't feel incredibly pretentious. So perhaps I'm biased, but titles of books alone don't do anything for me as far as making them jump out and seem interesting. As far as most intriguing, I'm probably most inclined to look at it from a literal standpoint, as in I simply like the way the words sound together. Think that bs Drew Barrymore was talking about in regards to "cellar door" in Donnie Darko, or something (I think. It's been a long time since I've seen that movie).
Ya, I need a coffee. |

Spellfire should have been an option for sure!
Shadowdale was probably my first Realms novel if I remember right, that is a cool name for a town/dale/novel.
But I voted Azure Bonds, because of that list it's the most intriguing for sure. |

Of the newer titles, I'd agree. Of all time Realms titles, it's got to be Spellfire (THO nailed the reasons; whatever our personal opinions, it's by far the most borrowed/swiped/imitated, so it must be the catchiest). After that, I plump for "Shadows of Doom" and "Death of the Dragon" among the older titles, and "The Shield of Weeping Hosts" among the newer titles. BB |

No one has any love for Darkwalker on Moonshae? No idea what the Darkwalker was but sounded bad or where the hell the Moonshaes were, but the title and cover art grabbed me, and the blurb on the back as well! 25+ years and still going! |

Indeed it is. It's the first novel in the trilogy that deals heavily on the Abolethic Sovereignty. Full of great characters and quite fun adventures. You might find it enjoyable, whether you like the Spellplague or not. |
