I just picked up this book, which says it is part of the Sellswords series. However, I seem to remember a book by the same name that I had a long time ago, as part of the Legacy of the Drow series. I'd compare the new book with the old one, but all my old books are in storage right now. Are both the books the same or do they just have the same name?

They are the same.
The book was 'shifted' into the other series. |

Thanks for letting me know.

Precisely why they do that.
Another series is being re-published under yet-another (THIRD TIME) title soon (the Elminster series), so don't make that mistake as well.
I like the concept of these 'complete' collections, but when you re-name one only a year or so after already releasing a 'complete' version, there is something VERY dodgey about that. |

Did that once, but my local BN was cool about letting me exchange it for another book, since it was obvious I never opened it. |

I accidentally bought two copies of Faiths and Avatars a long time ago, but it took me so long to realize it I couldn't return it (I was more of a 'collector' at that point).
I'll probably bring it to Gencon with me this year (to sell) - it might at least feed me while I'm there.
I don't think I ever bought the same novel, though - can't be sure. |

I bought it at a local Beans and Noodles too, so hopefully they will let me switch it for a new book, though it has taken me a while to finally realize I had made this mistake. We shall see. |

They should. I once bought the first book of a trilogy, took it home, discovered I already had it. I took it back the next day, traded it for the second book... which I discovered I had when I got home. This time, I checked to see if I had the third book before I went back! I did not, so I traded for that one.
I wound up dealing with the same checkout girl each time. This was years ago, but whenever she's ringing me out now, she always asks if I'm sure I don't have those books!
Here's a potential solution I found for this mess: there's a lot of free websites out there, like Googlepages. And most cellphones have internet capability. So make a list of what you have, toss it on one of those free sites, and bookmark it on your phone. I did that, and it's kept me from buying a lot of duplicate books, manga, and/or DVDs.
(Though I got tired of the Googlepages interface, and bought my own website. It's not at all pretty, just plain HTML -- but it suits my needs quite adequately, and is easy to update.) |

Actually, to be honest with you, I already have a database of all the books I have read. It was an old school project I worked on back in high school (a long time ago) and have kept it ever since. It is so old in fact, that I originally did it in MS Works. That's how I discovered I already had the book; it filled in the name as I was typing it in. I have just recently updated it to Excel and since I now have a smart phone, I've uploaded it into it. So from now own I can look on my phone to see if I have a book or not. Unfortunately at the time I bought the book (at the start of the month) I didn't have it on my phone. |
