The two devils that ruled over Zhentil Keep right after it's fall in 1368-69.
How did they disguise themselves as humans? I no longer have my core rulebooks from 2nd edition, so I don't know if Devils had an innate ability to disguise themselves.
How would they do this in 3rd edition? Pit Fiends have the wish, while Erinyes have minor image. Neither really fit for it, if the Pit Fiend wants to remain a Pit Fiend, and minor image doesn't seem like a spell that could disguise oneself... since there are other spells that do that.

I think most fiends have the resources to shape-change, if not through a 'natural ability', then through spells.
I could be wrong - been a long time since I ran 2e.
EDIT: IIRC, Khelben (for whatever reason) was aware of them, and let Fzoul know (which caused both the Harper and Zhent schisms). |

Thanks Markustay. I was just reading through some lorebooks, and found 2nd edition writeups for the two. They had Polymorph Self. Devils in 3.5 no longer have this ability.
Thoughts on blessing Devils with this ability again? I always thought Devils could do that, thematically.
Continued reading of the Villians' Lorebook, gives a description of these two that don't seem to match what I would think Devils would do. These two seem to be living it up as mortals, but no apparent goal of claiming more souls for themselves. They seem an odd pair. |

Found a 3.5 solution to my issue. Gift Desmonda rogue levels and then a Fiend of Corruption level. |
