Are Darwin, Angel (Pixie?), and Banshee new characters? Never heard of them before. Did they appear in the first animated X-Men series? X-Men: Evolution? Wolverine and the X-Men? Couldn't recall...
Angel and Banshee have been part of X-continuity for a long time... Since long before I was reading comics, and prolly since long before I was reading anything at all.
The Angel in First Class isn't the Warren Worthington III Angel/Archangel from the original five X-Men in the comics. The Angel in First Class is a girl named Angel Salvatore, and was first introduced in the Grant Morrison run of New X-Men in 2001.
Wooly is correct, however, in noting that Banshee was one of the original "new" X-Men put together with Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, Thunderbird, and Nightcrawler to form a new team back in the 70's, when the original X-Men were captured by Krakoa.
Darwin was introduced in X-Men: Deadly Genesis back in 2006. |

And as Sage noted, the Angel in the movie was actually Angel Salvatore (Though I had forgotten her actual name, and could not for the life of me figure out why they called her that...) Her name in the comics is Pixie, and she was introduced with several other "New Mutants". Some of the others who were created at that time are Elixir, Wind Rider, Wither, Rockslide, Mercury, Surge, and Anole. There are a few others, too, but I can't think of their names at the moment.
Havoc was cool, but I absolutely LOVED having Azazel in this flick! (Ties in with X 2, which was nice. It was good to see some of the interrelationships being brought in.) Interesting that you like him most, Sage. My first choice is Rachel. I LOVE the "2nd" Phoenix! And the fact that she's so much like her mother is cool, in my book.
On a related note, what does everyone think of Thor? I really liked it, and I'd be surprised if Sage hasn't see ntaht one yet, since he's a big of a Marvel geek as I am! |

I think there's a thread for Thor somewhere...
I loved the film, too. Great story and fabulous actors. Thor is scorchingly hot.
I find the frost giants cool as well.
The only thing that's not so good about the movie is the very short time allotted to Thor's transformation from a self-absorbed, overconfident brat to a mature deity. A "change of heart" rarely happens in an instant. And when it does, the character still has to take small steps in adopting to his newly found self. Maybe the movie is just so short for that. |

I like Rachel too, especially during the Chris Claremont days on Uncanny X-Men.
In terms of my second favourite Summers, though, that honour goes to Cable. So, ranking my favourites among the popular Marvel family... I have Havok, Cable, Rachel, Nate Grey [if we're including the alternate "Age of Apocalypse" stuff], Vulcan, Corsair, Jean, and, finally, Cyclops.

Indeed.
All in all, it wasn't too bad. Aside from a few misinterpretations of classic Norse mythology [which I felt really didn't need to be updated for modern audiences], Thor remains a faithful, if albeit, played adaptation of the comic book character.
Though, it doesn't quite succeed on the same level as 2008's Iron Man, it's a worthwhile translation, and provides encouragingly high hopes for both Captain America in July, and The Avengers [Woot!] next year.
The only actual aspect of the film that I found disappointing, was the physical appearance of the frost giants. Given how they've looked in the comics in the past, I was expecting something very different from the vampiric-like appearance of the creatures we saw in the film. Not that there was anything wrong with them, but years of playing D&D has pretty much enamoured the notion of how I felt frost giants "should" be.
...
Oh, and did anyone else catch the "Journey Into Mystery" message on the town's billboard just as the Destroyer was landing? I thought that was a nice touch. |

I did not see the movies yet, but I bet Stan 'Man' Lee was in these too, right? |

Stan Lee was one of the folk trying to remove Thor's entrenched hammer. He literally tears the back off his pick-up truck in the process.

He usually takes minor roles with maximum screentime 1 minute. A passerby who was saved by kid Murdock from going on red light, a senior who drank the juice with Banner's radioactive blood in it, etc. He also played himself in Fantastic 4, trying to enter the club where was their party! Hilarious! |

Actually, Sill, that was Reed and Sue's wedding. They wouldn't let him in because he on the guest list!! LOL!! In IM, he played Hugh Hefner. THAT was just as funny. Did not see him in Fist Class, however. Did anyone else spot him?
@ Sage. Not that I've seen. It was just my suspicion, from his size and fighting ability, and the fact that Luke Cage is one of the current members of the New Avengers. (Cap's team.) Might have been Golioth, though.... |

Who's looking forward to Green Lantern? The trailer is really cool. I'm a Ryan Reynolds fan---he was great in The Proposal---but I don't see him as the superhero type. I hope my opinion changes when I see the movie. |

By the way, he'd be playing Deadpool, too. Maybe Warner Bros. don't have any plans of having a sequel to GL. |

Actually, Reynolds typical attitude will help to further convey the character of Hal Jordan, for the most part.
In any event, Green Lantern is one of my favourite DC characters, so I'm looking forward to this film. |

Just two hours from now and the cinemas will be open. Good thing most cinemas here have online ticket "booths." I hate long queues. (Who doesn't?!)
Is GL's nemesis really named like that in the comics? I don't know, but it really sounds like a brand of medicine. |

Sinestro is corny. There's a lot of ways to "twist" the word sinister that wouldn't sound as corny.
Hammond sounds like what Bob from the X-Men should have used as his last name.

| Personally, I LOVE Ryan Reynolds's attitude! He first caught my eye in Van Wilder, and Waiting. Don't forget, he's already played in a super-hero movie BEFORE playing Deadpool- he was Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity. That is one of his better roles, IMO. The Proposal was great, too, and showed off some of his more "serious" side. Romantic comedies are definitely good for him. Can't wait to see GL, though! |

Well, it's not really a twist on the word sinister. The character's name is Thaal Sinestro. And, as I recall, Sinestro is a family name from Thaal's world of Korugar.
quote: I was referring to Parallax.
Parallax isn't really Hal's main nemesis. At least, not until later in the comics. Parallax is, essentially, the main threat [aside from Krona, I suppose] of the entire Green Lantern Corps... and the source of the yellow-impurity in the Central Lantern Battery on Oa. It's originally why a Green Lantern's power couldn't affect anything yellow in colour. |

I like the fact Marvel made a rival to DC for them to evolve into something (they could not depend on Batman for everything). Some of the newest arcs are cool. But for them to understand something, you need knowledge of previous issues.
I would like to get a look a GL, but I hope the guy will make good Deadpool. I was shocked when I learned what he was turned in Wolverine movie. He could not even speak even if he wanted to. |

Oops, I posted the comment above before I read Sage's last post. Thanks for that link, Sage. I kinda like the spectrum. But why were the other Corps not featured in JL, the animated series? Or, were they? Haven't watched all the episodes. |

I find it nearly impossible by reason that Deadpool issues are based on madness and ridiculousness with MUCH blood, violence and fourth wall breaking.

The current incarnations of both the "Colour Corps" and their associated Emotional Spectrum, are recent elements to feature in the GL-branch of the DCU. At the time the JL animated series was being put together, the concept of the Emotional Spectrum had fallen far into the background lore of the DC comic universe. It was only with writer Geoff Johns' rejuvenation [in 2004/05] of Hal Jordan as the main Green Lantern of Sector 2814, that the Emotional Spectrum, as we know it now, gained greater prominence in DCU lore.
