Reliquary of St Dionysus’ Chapbook This five-foot long Rhemoraz spine is carved with the bound-hands symbol of Ilmater in relief on a field of poppies. This image is repeated again and again over the whole length of the spine. On one end of this spine is mounted a theurglass case, just large enough to hold the Chapbook of St Dionysus. The base of the case fashioned to appear as a pair of bound hands rising up to enfold the Chapbook and red enameled poppies are in sunken relief of the corners of container portion. There does not appear to any way to open or close this reliquary until the command phrase “Endure Through Ilmatar” is spoken in Damaran (the saint’s native tongue). Then one face of reliquary slides open to allow access or reseal. The Reliquary will only seal if the Chapbook is placed inside it. When sealed the Reliquary manifests a permanent Circle of Protection from Evil at CL12. The Reliquary and anything sealed within makes all saves at an additional +3. When sealed the holder of the Reliquary may cast Favor of Ilmater (Players Guide to Faerun pg 80) once per day.

Well, it strikes me as rather large. A staff? Not sure any would carry a book so attached, it would be hard to carry as a non weapon (and the current description clearly appear it can not effectively be used as a weapon).
You also might want to work of what is in the "Chapbook". |

It sounds more like the remorhaz spine is the reliquary, and the book is the relic.
OK, I guess I would do a few things here...
1) Is the glass of the reliquary regular glass? If so, this needs to be handled with great delicacy. 2) I would likely give the bearer of the reliquary a stat bonus (Say +2 CON, so they can bear the weight and survive duress) and maybe the Endurance feat. 3) Really, if it's a Remorhaz, it should be St. Sollars the Twice-Martyred: It's the monks devoted to him that have to ride the white worms to earn full status as monks. I know where you're going with the St. Dionysus bit, but most ppl are ignoring that retcon (in the original module, the party cleric- I forget his name- is a cleric of Dionysus, but that was changed when the Bloodstone lands was set in FR,making Dionysus a saint of the church of Illmater, which lacked sense, to say the least). Placing a Mediterranian wine god in the frozen north just seems jarringly wrong to me.
Other than that, it seems a fine item. We might be able to give more constructive feedback if you told us what purpose it was created to serve, who made it, when, and how you see it being used.
As it is, it seems best set up in a small shrine of Illmater, as an installation, rather than as a carried item or bit of adventuring magic. |

In current lore, St Dionysus was another saint who had pushed for the foundation of the Monastery of the Yellow Rose--dedicated to St Sollars. Theurglass is one of the names for glassteel, which makes it rather durable. A "reliquary" is a fancy container designed to store/carry/display a relic of the faith. The catholics and some other faiths have quite a few of them in our reality. I had intended this a flavor item rather than an adventuring item. A reliquary designed to protect the Chapbook and display it to the faithful. Sounds like I need to work on the description a bit more. |

A field of poppies is good, needs something involving wine, the wearer bleeds wine |
