I really like the deities of Golarion and I was wondering what people felt about bringing Abadar into a campaign (I understand it is MY campaign and I can do what I want, but I would like input from other Realm experts.) I am not sure if I am going to do this yet.
Here is the way I wrote him in:
Unknown to any gods but Sune, Waukeen and Helm had a love affair for centuries. Their love begot a child that they named Abadar.
Helm and Waukeen carried on this love for years. When Waukeen was abducted by Graz'zt, it was Helm and Llira that arranged the adventurers Torandar Giantsbane, Rizzen K'La'Sherneck, the wemic Drandarion, and Duke Lowie Silversword to rescue the Merchant's Friend. Helm loved none other than Waukeen and she him.
This alone is why Sune sent Helm to chaperone the courtship of Tyr and Tymora, for she knew, Helm would not hold onto a love that was false, and even if he was not true, his vows to Waukeen, witnessed only by Sune, was enough to ensure he would remain a chaste chaperone. Which is why the events of the Year of Three Streams Blooded are so inconceivable; Helm would not have stolen Tymora's heart even if he fell out of love with Waukeen. Certainly he would not have compromised his trust with Tyr.
As is well known in the tales of bards and the churches, Tyr won the duel, and Helm was slain. Scholars were puzzled by what could have heppened to Helm's divinity. Sune knew that his divinity was collected by the ring he gave to Waukeen centuries before, which was studded with the most heavenly of Diamonds, mined from mount Celestia itself.
Waukeen was devestated by the killing blow Tyr landed upon her love, and her grief was worthy of the Divine power of Shar. In her grief, she killed herself, but not before bequeathing her ring upon her son, Abadar. When Waukeen tragically destroyed her divinity, it transferred to her son, and the Heavenly Diamond shattered as the divinity of Helm joined Waukeen's in their son Abadar.
It is believed that Shar may have whispered loss into the ears of Waukeen, causing the Merchant's Friend to destroy herself, in an attempt to usurp the portfolio of wealth. The Heavenly Diamond, still infused with the divinity of Helm, protected his love from Shar, and the Mighty Watcher, the Vigilant One, performed his last act of protection, and guardianship, ensuring his love did not succumb to corruption.
Abadar rose to a higher status than even his father helm, and the demigod of cities rose to become the God of Cities, Merchants, Wealth, and Guardians.
I have not read all of the Canon leading up to the spellplague, so i do not know if Helm really fell in love with Tymora or not, but I think the story accounts for that. I don't think this violates any other canon, thogh I do not remember all the details of Duty and Deity as I ran that in like 1998. Again I am going with the Motif of Shar and Cyric overextending their plans, which ultimately leads to their defeat.
I am on the fence about this so any input would be appreciated.
