Elaine this is fantastic news! It is so great to have you return to the Realms. I'm very intrigued with the idea of a caper novel. This is the next best thing to finding out that "Reclaimation" is no longer cancelled.
I do however have a sense of dread for the fate of Arylin and Danilo in prologue with the spellplague. At least we would know however, unlike the fates of most other pre-spellplague characters.
Don't jinx it, please? Elaine, are the above worries founded or not?
Oh, c'mon. You don't REALLY expect me to anwer this, do you?
He had to try. Maybe you could just transcribe your novel here on the forums, chapter by chapter, as you write it. |

It has been mentioned as a possibility, but more than that I don't know. When I get news (and the okay to pass it on), you'll hear it here first. |

That's hopeful news, because I'd really like to replace my well-worn copy of Elfshadow. |

And I'd really like to get my hands on any of Elaine's novels, apart from the "Best of" of hers I already have. Sometimes I wonder how a person who had the whole FR comic series back in the day (for cryin' out loud, one of my recurring characters in any computer games was either Priam or Agrivar!) missed out on the '90s as far as the novels go. |

This is more great news on top of the new Elminster series. Regardless of their desire to have so much be about the "new" Realms post Spellplague anyone who read a lot of the novels will tell you those great characters that we came to know and love over multiple books are what really drove so much of the stories. I was very sad to learn I wouldn't get to hear the conclusion of Danilo and Arilyn's story although maybe the prelude will at least shed a little light on it. I truly hope Elaith is around as well though from your description Elaine his daughter sounds like a character I may enjoy even more, even though Elaith is one of my favorite Realms villains...if indeed you can still call him that. Great news, very excited! Hopefully it won't be the only book about her or Elaith's legacy. |

This is a little embarrassing, but I seem to have forgotten the name of Azariah's mother.
A couple of years back, I had a "name that elf" contest but cannot find the files in which I recorded the results. The first name chosen began with K, and the last name was Dawnstar. If by some odd quirk of fate contest participants with excellent memories are reading this scroll, would you fill in the gap?

I'm not so sure about the mithral half-plate, but other than that you've pretty much nailed Azariah, Elaith Craulnober's daughter. I envision her growing up to be a kick-ass gold elf heroine. Because it's about time we had one of those.
Heh, with the Serpent as her dad, I think the kick-ass part is pretty much hard-wired into her genes.
And her mother was Kalia Dawnstar, a famous gold elf singer and thesbian. So she's got the hawt genes going for her, as well.

Is that vision still up for the Serpent's Daughter you intend to present us in your novel, Mrs. Cunningham? After all, the info posted above is by now two years old, IIRC...

Well, yes and no. She would no longer be called a "gold elf," and it's possible that some might regard her as more of an anti-hero. But ass-kicking is still a definite possibility.

Arilyn is about 50, fairly young for a half-elf, when she appears in the Prelude. This is set just before the spellplague. She would be over 150 during the main events of the story. At this point, I don't want to speculate on what her role might be, other than emphasize that this is Azariah's story. |

I'm fully aware of that, Mrs. Cunningham. It was just a silly, warm-hearted assumption, and I never forgot Azariah is the main character. Besides, even with all master Kenobi represents, the Star Wars first trilogy is not his story! But once again, I was just kinda kidding!

It is more than I can explain properly , but with the advent of the 4e rules, there are no longer any gold elves. Im sure another worthy scribe can explain it better.

The star, silver and gold elves are now (in 4e) called "eladrin", and the other subraces are simply called "elves". I think the divisions between gold and silver still exist, but they are more an appearance and culture classification than a true racial distinction. |

Oh, that much I knew already. I've been playing 4E (although not in the Realms) for the last 18 months or so.
However, when asked about it both Bruce Cordell and Rich Baker said that although the term "Eladrin" was being used in the FRCG and FRPG as a mechanical term for the High Elven kindreds, the subrace nomenclature would live on.
That is why I was wondering why Mrs. Cunningham said that Azariah wasn't a Gold Elf, because as far as I knew in lore/narrrative/fluff sources the term was still being used (See the use of Moon Elf in Rich Baker's 4E Novels). |

Thank you for your answer! As I had hoped, she does have a subracial designation, although I have to admit that fact that it may not be as prominent as before saddens me somewhat.
I say that because I was one of the people who queried the designers on, and subsequently posted on the WotC boards somewhat obsessionally about, the possible loss of the subracial language.
Although cheeky in the extreme, might I humbly beg for you to be as sneaky as possible and slip in as many references as you can? You would make a daft fan very happy . |

Sorry--you'll have to wait and see.
But this much I will say, since it's part of the published lore. Back in the short story "Games of Chance," Elaith assumed that the Craulnober moonblade would become part of Azariah's dowry--something she would hold in trust for her children or grandchildren. When it became clear that self-willed Azariah was not willing to take a pass, Elaith was afraid that she would, in fact, not be able to claim the sword. When an opportunity to "game the system" occurred to him, he took it. Didn't quite work out.
So. Since Azariah is determined to claim the blade, Elaith is giving her the best shot he possibly can, including having Arilyn (among others) train her in preparation for that day.
But. Men plan, gods laugh. Elves plan, Spellplague hits. |
