Misc., you're not doing yourself any favors here - if you have a valid stance (and I happen to think you do), then you should just ignore the more 'impassioned' (there are less flattering words I could use) fans... on BOTH SIDES.
You know I don't care for 4e, and I happen to think I know you well-enough by now to know you yourself aren't entirely thrilled with it, but you are trying to make the best of a situation we have no control over, and perhaps even try to improve upon the meager offerings we've officially received. With that, I can agree with YOU 100%. I thought the warlock Knights thread over at wotC was one of the best I ever participated in there - it was fun, and we took a decent idea and went to town with it.
That's the kind of 4e articles I would love to see in a new Compendium - if we took some of the better aspects of the 4e realms (and c'mon.. there are a few cool morsels in there) and detailed them more, including plot-hooks and interesting (non-canon) NPCs, I think more people will be able to see the positive aspects of 4eFR.
I think that kind of article is helpful and edition-neutral - I plan of using the stuff in the Warlock Knights thread, but I'm going to port it into my circa 1390 Realms (which is a mere 5 yrs after the last campaign I ran).
Other areas that could be expanded on are the Genasi, or the Dragonborn - articles that work in any edition (no-one is forcing someone to use anything in a time period they don't like - that would be ludicrous). Hell, I've had Melnibneans and Gloranthan Giants in my FR for years, but I'm not being forced to run the Young Kingdoms or Runequest. Lore is lore - use it anyway you want to.
And isn't that the purpose of the Compendium? To be a useful source for our gaming? Otherwise, it is just a self-serving piece of fan-fic. |

It was intended, and I believe that it was stated clearly, (although with enough hegde-works to make it clearly my opinion) that if a Moderator is clearly anti-WotC, anti-post 2e development, then it is deleterious to the goal of ending the "Development Schism".
Okay, first of all, how did this idea that I'm anti-post 2E come about? I've said more than once that there's a lot of stuff in 3E that I liked -- just not all of it. And I've also said that I think there are some things in 4E that can be nicely ported to prior editions... Further, as has been pointed out before, I have more than once stepped up to defend WotC -- and I've taken a lot of flack for it, too.
Besides, holding an opinion does not have anything to do with a schism. I have let 4E threads run their course, and even stepped in to keep anti-4E people from spamming those threads. Do I like the 4E Realms? No. Has it once affected how I moderate? No. Therefore, my opinion is irrelevant.

I believe that we busy little underfoot ink-touts and candle-lighters should be free to speak truth to "power", and that the Moderators' knee-jerk reaction should not be to shut us down. My reading of A5 in the Code of Conduct reveals no violation on my part. Your mileage may vary, and in this instance, is the only road that matters.
See above. I've gone out of my way to defend WotC, and I've gone out of my way to let people discuss any edition they want to discuss. I have not once closed a thread because it was a particular edition, I've never deleted a post that wasn't in clear violation of the Candlekeep Forum Code of Conduct (and even that's rare), and I've never editted a post save for profanity or to fix coding. No discussions have been stifled by moderator fiat.
The only discussions that have been stifled have been those ones where people start attacking other people for holding dissenting opinions. And that's happened far too oft of late. Not only that, but I for one am getting tired of being attacked for my opinions. I respect the opinions of others, even when I don't agree. Is that too much to ask from my fellow scribes?
