Hola peeps. I've been looking at some homepages regarding finding some miniatures to my D&D group, but most stuff I can find are made of cheap plastic with very few details - in other words; They are not something I'ød like to spend my money at.
I have alot of old miniatures, but bought them private as a collection and back in the days when they got sold in RPG shops in Denmark.
So, was wondering if there are some of you, who knows a good homepage to buy miniatures? It can be in both metal or plastic, but in good quality and also if you might know some who have some for sale.
I have been at the rpgshop.com which seemed to be the one to navigate easiest in, but also with some miniatures that I don't like that much.
Any input will be gladly accepted. I live in Denmark, just an info.
Have a nice day and be good.
Cheers Zeff

I've always found the Reaper miniatures to be of pretty good quality (artistic wise). Though I've not bought any from them, I really want to and they're not really expensive either.

Have you looked into the D&D miniatures that are presently available from WotC? Some of the miniatures are pretty good. I know you mentioned that some you looked into were lower quality plastic, so I am curious if these are the ones you are referring to. If not, they are worth a look.
Having said that, I am also curious what types of minis you are wanting. PCs, monsters, etc? For some of these, D&D minis are likely the cheapest you will find. The key is buying a number of them all at once on the secondary market. The rares (they are presently sold as a collectible miniatures game so they have different rarity levels) are the main ones that have high prices. A handful of the uncommons, like the Drow, are higher than average. Beyond those, most of the commons and uncommons can be had for less than a dollar each. Obviously that's U.S. pricing.
Here is one U.S. site (not sure if they ship overseas, but it should give you an idea on pricing in the U.S. at least if that helps at all) that I do business with from time to time. http://shop.strikezoneonline.com/Category/Dungeons_and_Dragons_Miniatures_Singles.html Sometimes their prices are higher or lower than others. You really have to look around for these and if you want a variety of figures you might end up getting them from a variety of sites due to differing prices. The low end figures (commons and uncommons like skeletons, goblins, etc) can probably be had real cheap on EBay in large lots. For the rares you just have to look around.
If you just want to see all the miniatures that are out for this line, this site- http://www.ddmspoilers.com/mm_03.php has all of them. You have to navigate by set name at the top of the page and the older sets are listed under DDM 1.0. The figures pictured should all be final products (I say that because the site is geared towards spoiling the future sets and sometimes has pictures of factory rejects). Hopefully some of this helps. |

I should throw out one other comment about the D%D minis. The quality of the line has gone up and down (and up and down, etc) on an almost set by set basis. The first 2 or 3 sets (Harbinger, Dragoneye, Archfiends) are hit and miss on figure quality. A real high point was the "War" block of sets (War Drums, War of the Dragon Queen, and Blood War). Quality declined in some respects after Blood War and it's been hit and miss since then. A lot of the lower end figures have improved, a few look like they are out of the first set. Most of the rares look good, but some are bad. If you find a figure of a creature you want (like say, a Marilith) check around to see if there has been more than one of them made (with the Marilith, there are 2 and the brand new one looks much better). Also, one or the other of them is likely to be cheaper. So, I guess my main advice is look around a bit before making a purchase if you decide to pick up any of these. |
