This weekend, I picked up the Power of Faerūn. The last chapter has a section on Influence - this is similar to Leadership but not quite.
I didn't really understand it, and would have appreciated an example. Are there any other sources where Influence is mentioned? Could any of the sages help explain this to me a bit more? Thank you.

Well, I looked it up and I think I got the gist of it.
High level rulers (those with the Leadership feat and a score of 10 or more) can get a circumstance modifier to their social skills when ordering some sort of action to their subjects.
Say the King has recently lost 5 borderbattles (-50 public defeat modifier), but wants fourhundred allied merchant families who have some of his cohort members in them (+400 modifier) to give up their second sons to join his personal army. Because of his allied cohorts amongst the merchant families he'll have a slight advantage in coaxing them (total influence modifier of [400-50=]350 diveded by 200 is a net +1 to his diplomacy checks) in convincing them to actually send the ruler their sons. |

Dank U wel!
Thanks for this. I read the section last weekend but either because of brain-fade, or too much tea, I couldn't really get the meaning. Thank you for your reply. Power of Faerūn is an enjoyable read, isn't it. |

Haha! Geen probleem, schoonheid.
I had problems interpreting the divide by 200 sentance... It confused me untill I acknowledged the scale of ruling: you're largely dealing with double digit numbers when counting allied forces and organisations. |

U bent te vriendelijk, knap.
I'll have a read of 'Power...' this evening and use your example. I'm sure it'll help. |

Voor Uw schoonheid ben ik altijd bereid te dienen. *buigt galant*
You planning to introduce the mechanic into the powerplays of a drow society? It could help a good deal in making clear what actions have consequences for the hierarchy between the ruling clans and how a matron can influence the actions of her lessers.
Let me know if you need anything more, Ill be around |
