Greetings fellow sages,
Just thought I would pose this question to you Sages who are quite knowledgeable on this subject: Which are the best Realmslore-related articles that can be found in pre-DDi Dragon magazine (esp. those from the post 3.x period)?
Thanks in advance, Hawkins

Any articles written by Ed Greenwood, Steven Schend, George Krashos, and Eric L Boyd would rank among those I consider the "best" DRAGON articles from the printed magazine. [Though, this does depend on what you mean exactly by "best?" Heh.] |

Thanks, do you have any specific issues you could give as examples. I am looking to start trying to collect the Realmslore found in Dragon magazine, and would like a starting point. |

I'd say almost all of the articles written by them. But there are a couple that particularly stand out, like Krash's "Impiltur" article in DRAGON #346. I'll have to check for other specific articles when I get home though... I can't access the DragonDex from my current location. |

The old Divine Divinity article, which first showed the Realmsian pantheon would be included in my list. There's also the Eveningstar article. Sorry that I cant remember the issues.
If I were you I would try to find the Dragon Archives cd-ROM, which contain issues 1-250. |

Those are indeed an excellent resource. It's too bad we'll never get updates to them. |

I use Grome instead of Grumbar, and Kakatal, and have some cult of the beast deities as animal lords in Beastlands

Or actually being able to purchase them at a reasonable price... |

They tried to get into the software market too early. At the time they sold the Archive, the computer world wasn't advanced far enough for their product to be successful. Had they waited several years, until enough people did have PCs, then not only would the software have been very successful, they would likely still be selling both the original software and updates for it.
I was lucky, getting to buy the software when TSR was dumping it for half-price. I wish I'd had the foresight to buy some extra copies! |
