interesting shape of the continents, better than I imagined
one of the reasons I did not switch completely to Golarion was the map (when you zoom in, particularly the inner sea part and the River Kingdoms) |

The Carrion Crown Player’s Guide is out.
I really like the Whispering Tyrant story, thought of combining that with the Prince of Nothing novels plot and the spacecraft crash in Numeria. |

I SO have to get a part-time job to afford a subscription - I'm practically drooling over their stuff.
Such quality!
I'd have to agree with Quale - I didn't find Golarion's shape very inspiring (in fact, it had the same exact problem I have with FR - too 'square-ish'). I love what they did with the place.quote: Originally posted by Ayunken-vanzan

My subscriptions page says mid-May for when the next Paizo novel will ship to me, though that may be early for subscribers or something. |

I've had my copy for a week or two now, but I've not yet gotten to it -- I'm nearing the end of the 5th of the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books.
The Inner Sea World Guide is shipping this week. I'm stoked about that one! |

Oh, these both sound good. I don't know where or how I'll fit them into my current reading schedule, but they're definitely being bumped up my "To-Read" stacks. |

Well, I recently took the plunge and started delving deeper into Golarion...
I have to say I may be in love again.
It really is good stuff...the lore is awesome (I don't care much about the crunch).
I guess my question is this:
Anyone have an idea how much it would cost me to "catch up" on all this stuff?
Currently I just have the Absalom Book, The Darklands, and the Gazetteer.
Any clue?
EDIT: Map folio just shipped! My favorite part! Wish I could make good maps... |

I second that! I have the PDF, and I am eagerly awaiting the book in two weeks. This new incarnation of the CS is awesome. |

So, where did I put my Portal in a Box? |

It all depends on how "in depth" you want to get.
If you're looking for the "big picture", the Inner Sea World Guide just went on sale, and is shipping out. $49.99 for the hardcover, $9.99 for the PDF (avail. 3/23).
If you're going for the Pokemon approach, I recommend checking out the Campaign Setting and Player Companion sections. Everything in the Campaign Setting line is detailed info on areas/groups/etc. and specific to the game rules. The Player's Companion products are much more "rules non-specific" giving fluff detail on races, lands and background info on various Adventure Paths.
And, no matter what else, I cannot hype up the Adventure Paths enough. Not only do you get a terrific set of six adventures that make a wonderful campaign, but each of the individual books include details on people, places and monsters that attach to the stories, plus fiction written by some of our best-loved authors/designers. AND, with that subscription, you get the PDFs of each book free, 15% off cover price, plus 15% off most other purchases from the Paizo online store.
<huff-huff-huff>
Okay, done with the sales pitch.
Oh, and PaizoCon is in Bellevue. Limited spots available! |
I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

Paizo is gonna release a Pathfinder RPG Basic Starter Set later this year. Saw it at En World! Todays news:
quote: Yesterday I posted some images of the upcoming Pathfinder boxed set. Black Diamond Games has some more info.
Erik Mona: "Please note that this is a mock-up and that some of the details (such as the exact name) will be changing. The new Wayne Reynolds painting is correct, though!" BDG: "It's a full 5-level Pathfinder box set that uses the same rules in a more user friendly format. It should have a DMs book, player's book and adventure. No miniatures but standee figures ala Kill Doctor Lucky. It's $34.95." Vic Wertz: "That is the actual final cover art—but it's *not* the finished cover. It's also not really going to be called "Basic Game," and that particular title font will not be used." Erik Mona: "Just wait until we post the contents. This is going to be absolutely STUFFED with high-value materials. We're putting as much stuff in this box as we can without losing money." Erik Mona: "We won't be formally announcing this project for a while yet, so things like a final class and race list will have to wait. Right now it's best to consider these photos as further evidence that Paizo is going to release this game later this year, but until we've formally solicited it to the trade and posted a project page, some of the details are going to take a while to get out." James Jacobs: "We at Paizo have always viewed 5th level as the end of low-level. It's got capstones (fireball!), but it doesn't edge into the rather complex arena of iterative attacks. 5th level, for those reasons and more, is a good break off point."

I have been reading through my little brother's copy of Inner Sea World Guide, and in the forward it states that it is the original Campaign Setting + extra content and updated to the PFRPG rules set, so it would probably be redundant to buy both, unless you want both crunch in both the 3.5 and PFRPG rules sets. |

That sounds pretty awesome. And maybe with the lower price my group can get some of people to buy their own books since they have been holding out because of the $50 price tag of the Core Rule Book. |

It is a lower price...but it only covers to 5th level. I would say it is good for an introductary game...but if you then want to play to higher levels someone is STILL going to have to buy the Core book.
I think it is a good product...but maybe only for very casual play that might take a long time to play up to level five. |

| My only issue with the Map Folio is that when I look at it I realise that give Paizo another few years and a bunch of Adventure Path's, and they'll be able to sell us an updated version ...and I won't complain a bit about it. |

As the original Campaign Setting, the Inner Sea World Guide has a folded map (so says the product description, I am still awaiting for mine to arrive). The map is smaller than the one of the Map Folio, the latter having more tags and named locations than the map of the World Guide. |
