Many thanks all!
I really like this world...it really seems a solid mix of Greyhawk (defined political boundries and such) and the Forgotten Realms (depth of lore and magical feel); and even perhaps a bit of Hyboria for me.
The only problem I have with most campaign worlds is the "typical" placement of the cultures. By that I mean, the "Vikings go in the north and the desert invaders in the south-east" sort of thing.
The only worlds that I've played in that didn't do this were Greyhawk (but it primarily had a "mirror" effect placing things in nearly the opposite east-west axis) and Krynn, where the cultures were primarily unique and in the Southern Hemisphere as well.
I think they could have done better with Golarion by placing things in both an east-west AND north-south mirrored axis.
Not a real complaint I suppose...but the only thing I would have done differently to give it a different feel. |

And in other news: Wayfinder #4 is out. Featuring stories from Candlekeep luminaries Dave Gross and Elaine Cunningham. (Oh, and I have a part in a monster, too, but that's rather less noteworthy if'n you ask me ). |

Just an update regarding the size of the map:
quote: Just for the record: its [i. e., the map of the Inner Sea World Guide, A.-v.] 1 inch longer than the map in the original (3.5) campaign guide, but otherwise similar in size. [...] The colour contrast has been improved, and the wording is a lot bigger and clearer. The borders are also clearer. [...]
If you want a nice big map, and don't want the campaign guide, or the even bigger map, its a good product.
I have now downloaded the new Wayfinder. Since I just started to read the Cleric Quintett by Salvatore this morning, I'll be hard pressed to read all this great stuff this weekend.
Ah, so much to read, and so little time! |

Has Paizo put anything out for Asian Style playing at all?
I could easily make a Samurai with the fighter class...but it doesn't seem to "feel" right. Or a Ninja (not all Ninja were "evil"...like the Hattori, Asai, etc.), or a Monk like the Japanese Shinto-Bhuddist Monks of the Warrior Orders who fought with Katana and Naginata...
Sooooo...any clues for me? |

| Check out the playtest for "Ultimate Combat", where those classes are being playtested right now. The next Adventure Path "Jade Regent" will lead us over the Crown of the World to Tian Xia. |

A Lesson in Taxonomy, part 1 by Dave Gross begins.
Meet the latest iconic - Hayato the Samurai. The accompanying picture by Wayne Reynolds is being auctioned off with the proceeds going towards the Red Cross's efforts in Japan. |

Concerning the new Campaign Setting/Inner Sea book...
Is there much more in it than in the original campaign setting book?
And I do mean "much more" in a way that makes it worth shelling out 50 u.s. for it.
Although...the PDF is only 10 bucks. |

| Just to clarify, even though the World Guide: The Inner Sea book is only 64 pages longer than the original campaign setting book, it actually does have about 100 pages of new content over the old book because much of the "crunch" that was in the old book has been moved into the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and the Advanced Player's Guide and has been replaced with lore (at least that is what the forward in the books says, I do not have both books to compare). Also, everything timeline wise has been updated to the current Golarian year 4711 (IIRC). So if you want the most up-to-date resource with the most lore, I would go with the World Guide: The Inner Sea. If you can't afford the $50 price tag then I would suggest buying the PDF for $10, and then get the book later on Amazon for $31.50 later. Or you could just buy the book on Amazon for $31.50. Paizo actually posted something on FB as to the idea of "Buy our book on Amazon to push up its Amazon Sales Rank" (currently #1,210). |

I got the Inner Sea map folio, and it had Xin-Shalast, spoiling some fun for the pcs
but the world guide is an improvement, probably the best campaign setting book since PSCS |

| Just got Rule of Fear, a book about Ustalav. Almost perfect for my Transylvania and Wallachia analogue (neighboring countries and lycanthropes need a few changes). The best part are the conspiracies and secret societies, and Karcau, the cities on canals always been the most interesting. |

Wayfinder #5 has reached the public. For a free pdf-download, go here: http://paizo.com/store/downloads/paizoFansUnited/v5748btpy8l4y
This issue includes articles by RPG Superstar winner Neil Spicer (author of Realm of the Fellnight Queen, fiction from monster-maker Adam Daigle (with credits in several of Paizo's Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes, perhaps most notably the final 3.5 issue: The Final Wish, as well as Open Design's recent release Book of Drakes, rules for using the Harrow Deck in character-creation by Liz "Lilith" Courts, a new construct and spells by 3.5 Private Sanctuary's Ryan Costello Jr, and featuring art by Crystal Frasier, recent Paizo-regular Carolina Eade, and Pathfinder Paper Minis artist Ashton "N'wah" Sperry, as well as a lot of other interesting entries.
Disclaimer: One of those other entries might have been written by yours truly . |

And some of the news from PaizoCon I've been able to hear about so far: The next Adventure Path, Jade Regent, will include rules for handling NPC-romances, as well as rules for handling caravan travel, and rules for adventuring on the North Pole.
The AP following Jade Regent, has the working title Skulls and Bones, and will see the PCs as pirates in the Garundi archipelago nation of the Shackles. This will supposedly be a more sandboxy style of AP, in the vein of Kingmaker, and will feature rules handling "infamy." |

I can add a little more, passed on by Ed: an interesting "Vikings versus ninjas" future adventure, Bestiary 3, the long-awaited Ultimate Combat hardcover (of course), and a Beginner Box that both Paizo and Ed are very excited with. Ed says that from what he saw, this is a:
. . . rich, lush, extensive beginner's set (only five levels of character advancement, four classes, three races [humans, elves, dwarves], and some simplified rules), but more flexible and "useful all by itself" for novice gamers, that looks like it really works as an introduction to the game. Jason told the banquet audience that young people utterly unfamiliar with roleplaying games managed to get playing in about ten to fifteen minutes, without any guidance from anyone (i.e. no GM who's already played, etc.) Looking at what we were shown, I believe him - - and this is of course the Holy Grail of roleplaying design: an introductory product that really can "train" newcomers into the game all by itself. LOTS of standup paper (with plastic base) monsters. There'll be a separate 4-figure PC figurines set offered by WizKids and Paizo, for use with this box instead of the four paper PC characters included in the box (same four characters). Oh, and a double-sided mapsheet, gridded both sides, but one side otherwise featureless, and the other with a color "terrain" painted surface. I will be buying this. What a bargain.
The rest of what Ed passed on isn't, I think, supposed to be public yet (though I may be wrong), so I'll stop there. love, THO |

During my lunch break, and an otherwise inane day of compiling/debugging, I headed off to the local book store. Whereupon I had the grand opportunity for proclaiming 8 July as "The Sage's Personal Pathfinder Day."
Behold my mighty haul:-
- Bestiary - Bestiary 2 - Ultimate Magic - Inner Sea World Guide - Lost Cities of Golarion - Rule of Fear - Rival Guide - Undead Revisited - Halflings of Golarion - Faiths of Purity - Humans of Golarion
Plenty of reading for the weekend! |

Looking through Dungeons of Golarion right now. They've got robots in my fantasy! And it's done so elegantly and easy (it's just a subtype of construct).
Faiths of Balance: Haven't looked that close, on account of it being bleeding annoying to have the page cut off by the computer-screen, but it's got some good stuff for players with characters worshiping the main neutral deities, and less gratuitous cheesecake art than there were in Faiths of Purity (the Calistrian in thigh-highs boot with garters, corset, and not much else other than a whip is not gratuitous; Calistria is basically Sharess with a mean streak).
Ashes at Dawn: Nice fiction-piece, Ailson Kindler is shaping up to be a first class example of the Irascible Old Lady character prototype; the monsters look good, and the article on Urgathoa is as good as one has come to expect from everyone's favourite Sean K Reynolds. I've purposely not looked close at the adventure since I suspect my disinterest in horror would make me a pretty bad GM for this Adventure Path, but might end up in a group playing it. |

I'm particularly impressed by this mighty tome. Certainly, it would have to be among the best "magic books" I've ever had the pleasure to own. I have that opinion already, just from a brief skim-through. I haven't even started reading it yet!

It's just the lengthy shipping delay to Australia that's largely preventing me from taking up a PATHFINDER subscription.
I suppose it's not that much of an issue, though, when I consider that I also get instant access to the PDFs for every book they'll send to my door.
