While it's not a Source or Core Product, I hope I can stick my thoughts in this thread, as it is a WotC book and is aimed at being an introduction for women into the D&D experience. If it's not, please moderate me and I apologize for starting the thread. I did my obligatory Searches and didn't come up with anything.

I was browsing the Fantasy/Roleplay section recently and came across this book and asked myself "what the heck!?"

Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress - A Girls Guide to the D&D game.

Next time you are at your local bookstore, see if they have a copy of this. Skip the foreword by MR and MRS Salvatore and skip to Chapter 1 to get a feel of the product. I stood in the store for over 20 min reading this book and eventually bought it. It's hysterical! It's written by a ~35 year old woman who gets a job at WotC but has never gamed in her life. It APPEARS that WotC has provided time, or forced her and some other non-gamers, into gaming sessions every Monday afternoon. What follows is her take on gamers, the game, her group and the overall experience.

Like I said, take a peak next time you are browsing your Fantasy/Role-play section.

For the record, I'm a 34 year old man, which made buying this book from a 17 year old dude at the counter a little funny too

I bought it as a gift for one of my players, who runs this site:

She was interested in reviewing it, but I don't think that she has gotten around to it quite yet.

Most of the female gamers I know around here found the book insulting.

I thought it was amusing and bought it for my sister. She thought it was really funny. I can see how an experienced female gamer might get insulted, since the book is geared towards raw beginners, but I would suggest it for anyone just starting.

Are you serious!?!? not sure why... but I guess you can't please everyone. Oh well.

if it becomes a sore point here, the mods can kill the thread. wasn't my intent to create a contentious thread.

I haven't really taken a look at this book, partly because I'm not sure how interesting I would find it (what's the point?). But I doubt I would find it insulting.

I wondered what this was... A WotC staffer was handing out small black dice bags with this logo on it in pink and a swirly pink D20 in the bag.

I bought it for my wife for Christmas, she hasn't read it, but I read quite a bit of it. I found the book to be highly entertaining, Shelly Mazzanoble is very funny. Check out her Dragon articles to see if you like her style.

Thanks for the recommendation. I could always use a good laugh!
