Actually, while we are on the subject of themes for sites, I am developing something 'salamander' related for the adventure. Are you up to creating a salamander-based lair, or site?. The settings in the IWD games could provide some healthly inspiration.

9th Site: Museum Cavern This cavern is roughly cone shaped, with the narrow end of the cone open to aboveground. About thirty feet inside the edge of the cone has been cleared out, leaving space for a spiral shaped mound in the center. A walkway curves around the outside of the mound eventually reaching a flat space at the top of the mound, under the opening. Along the walkway, cut into the interior of the mound, are various chambers, holding various reptilian creatures, each of which has some variation on the form of a pointed head, one arm, and a serpentlike body. |

Salamander sounds great. I'm up for most anything. Ice or fire, and how much detail should I go into? |

Site 9 - I like it .
I can just imagine a group of Riptide scientists standing around the above-ground entrance looking down into the cone cavern taking notes.
As for ice or fire...how about both. As for detail leave, as much as you like will be good enough, since your doing such a good job already.

I guess I'm the go-to person for magical sites, hmmm?
As I've got a spare day today, I'll take the time to do this probably as a full map and key, and send it to you. Of course, this brings up one more question: What level party should I design for?
Any more site suggestions(as I've done the past 9 of the top of my head)? |

I am basically looking for a low-to-mid level party for this adventure. Alhtough that could change, depending upon the overall 'feel' of the adventure as a whole.

I apologise for the lack of involvement on my behalf. I do have some things I wish to post, but I want them all to work together first, so that others can see what direction this adventure is taking, and then contribute something.
The good thing about the sites you are generating, is that they can be place almost anywhere within the adventure structure.
As for more site suggestions...how about something that takes into account the Great Rift's inner walls. Surely there is something strange we can concoct that would sit nicely along one of the wall living areas of the Rift's innards.
In case you are not sure what I am talking about, look through the 2e DL accessory Otherlands, free for download at WotC. It details a complete society living in a community similar to the Great Rift, only glacier based.

I've had some ideas for something like that, but I haven't posted them because I didn't want to muck up anyone else's work. You've given me some valuable input, Sage. You have nothing to apologize for. Hmm...time for me to start thinking of something weird... The "I'm the go to person..." sentence was meant to be some egotistical, self-inflating statement. Just me being weird. |

That's okay, I understand . I just wish we could get a little more input on this from other scribes here at Candlekeep.
Mournblade had some good ideas, but he's been absent for a while...oh well...

10th Site: Etching Outcropping About halfway down the Great Rift, a large piece of stone juts out from the rift wall. The piece of stone is triangle-shaped, with the top of the outcropping smoothed as if by plenty of use. Etched into the outcropping are pictures of various Underdark creatures, from dwarves to illithids to deep rothe and ixzan. Odd magical occurences have been reported around the outcropping, everything from small items appearing to the etchings glowing to spells mysteriously going off...none of which affect the outcropping in any way. A massive stone forms the wall behind the outcropping, and sometimes lights appear around the edges of the stone...but the dwarves have never been inclined to investigate... |

11th Site: Erratic Portal
This nondescript arch is cut into one of the walls of the Great Rift. 29 days a month, it remains connected to Dwarfhome, the planar home of the dwarf pantheon. However, the last day of the month always strikes fear into the hearts of the Great Rift's residents...as the portal changes destinations...to some evilly-aligned plane. Everything from Nessus to, once, the Far Realm, have appeared on the other side of the portal. On the thirtieth day of the month, citizens of the Great Rift are told to stay in their homes, while the military strength of the Great Rift guards this portal...only leaving a skeleton crew in the upper reaches... |

Good additions Arivia.
I especially enjoyed the 'Site 11 write-up'. I can think of at least 10 uses for that particular site in my campaigns .
As for site 10, well, it definitely has potential for development, since you made mention of the fact that the dwarves have never investigated the strange occurences. I have an idea rolling around inside my brain-box (after reading that particular site description) that may just prove interesting...and it will build on this site as well.
I'll post more when I have time...

Actually I do have one quick idea that you may be able to help me with in terms of overall development.
This idea was originally inspired by the PS: Torment game (surprise, surprise...right ). It involves the 'face in the wall' section of the game. It is the part where Annah shows you where she found you. And then a face appears in the wall.
At first, I interpreted it as a sort of natural phenomenon, a result of inanimate objects becoming so saturated with magical and planar energies that they spontaneously developed a sort of sentience and life. This applies both to the face in the Weeping Catacombs and the face in the Alley of Sighs. Sigil as a whole may be sort of alive anyway, which would only encourage pieces of it becoming sentient from time to time.
I was thinking of developing a similar idea for a site in the Great Rift, with strange abilities that I would assign to it later, depending upon where in the adventure that I placed it.
What do you think?.

Good idea, Sage. Such an entity may be able to subtlely influence the terrain for miles around, also. It could be a major power player in the Rift that the dwarves have no idea about. For its creation, what about the mystical energies that created the Great Rift in the first place? |

The creation energies of the Great Rift...good idea . I'll put this in the 'More Development' tray.
Here's another idea that I have been tinkering with (although it is a little bizarre)...imagine if an advanced group of shapechanger like mimics decided to co-operate with each other to become pieces of a building. One turns into a wall, one into a door, another into a porch, and so forth, constructing and furnishing a house or temple or office out of their amorphous bodies. Maybe they even allow humanoids to dwell in the place and use them as household items in return for being fed and taken care of...
Ideas, or comments?...

Interesting...You could take this two ways: 1-The horror film route, where unsuspecting visitors are suddenly devoured when the house comes to life... 2-As you described below, with a symbiotic relationship between the residents and the parts of the house. Further development would have to wait until that choice is made... |

Arivia did you get a hold of the Underdark web enchancements available from WotC?. The second one has some interesting dungeon material (and Far Realm links) that could be of use in this adventure design.
Let me know what you think.
The link for the web enchancement is here.

I don't have the information with me at the moment (since I am at the university library), but I can tell you that I used some of the material (as a basis) presented for the main Illithid city outlined in the tome.
I was hoping that the Illithids would feature at least peripherially in this campaign/adventure, and the information in this tome makes that easier.
I'll post some of it when I again visit Candlekeep.

I think you mean the Elder-Brain...
Illithids can be killed like most other creatures, it is not necessary to destroy the Elder-Brain, unless you intend to destroy the entire community of Illithids that you encounter.
