Character
Description and HistoryMaysrill
started out as a idealistic young scholar, who obtained a position as a librarian at
Candlekeep, before he left to seek knowledge outside the cloistered walls of the secluded
library.
He travelled with a group of mages and priests devoted to the gods
Mystra and Azuth, intent on finding knowedge of spells and magical items that had been
lost to time.
Among the group's finds though, was a deadly artifact called the Deck
of Nasty Things. Promising power and threatening dire consequences, the deck was an
addictive game of chance, whose mixed blessings warped the party both mentally and
physically, all save for Serrah, a priestess of Mystra, who refused to use it, and lead
the effort to dispose of the artifact.
With the help of powerful beings and an gold dragon, ancient and
powerful beyond recogning, the deck was destroyed, and the effects of the deck mostly
reversed. Some of the effects would never be erased, however, and Maysrill retained a
mental fortitude and quickness of thinking unparalleled among mortals. Another casualty of
the deck's corrupt influence was Maysrill's morality.
Always more interested in Law than in Good, Maysrill's outlook on life
had changed. Whereas previously he had turned his intellect toward the good of his
companions, his now vastly superior mind toward more ambitious goals. While he remained
loyal to his friends, he would never be the same. Knowledge and power were ends unto
themselves, and the means to achieve them irrelevant. Those who could not be reasoned with
for the knowedge they posessed, were to be made forcibly to part with their secrets.
