Character
Description and History Marnie is brash, daring, and
bold. She has a highly developed sense of honor, and served King Azoun quite loyally for
many years as a Purple Dragon. amd was assigned to the queen's personal guard. Her strong
nationalistic tendencies and loyalt to Cormyr often conflicted with her obligations to the
Riders of Elvenflow.
Although highly charismatic, her simplistic approach to encounters
often got her party into some unneccessary scrapes.
She is currently retired, and married to a former rider named Surrote
(a cleric of Hermes).
When Gondegal briefly conquered Arabel, Marnie's parents, nobles in
the city, were executed. Marnie was a small child at the time, and did not understand that
Marcus, her older brother and new guardian, was involved in their deaths. When Marnie was
a teenager, her brother tired of his obligation and killed her (it was made to look like a
knife throwing accident at the carnival where they worked). Her brother feigned guilt when
she was unexpectedly raised by a generous priest, and he abandoned her at the carnival in
"shame".
Due to her family name, Marnie rose quickly through the ranks of the
Purple Dragons when she joined. She served in several active tours of duty, and was
promoted to protective duties for the royal family. She eventually retired, in order to
find her brother (she would later find him, and be heartbroken when his true nature was
revealed). During this time, she joined the Riders of Elvenflow. Her strong moral stance
resulted in eventual enmity with Magnus Xavier, and she was considered by him to be one of
the "stupid naive fighters" (behind his back, of course). She formed quick
opinions of the other members, considering most of them to be untrustworthy.
Marnie cornered her wayword brother on several occasions (he was also
a swashbuckler), but could never bring herself to kill him.
Even after leaving the Purple Dragons, Marnie continued to wear their
colors and often returned to active duty when called upon by the crown. She recently lost
her special status in Cormyrian circles when she turned down a request for aid to pursue a
personal obligation in the Jungles of Chult (another story).
Marnie is currently devoted to raising her son, and it is unknown if
she will actively adventure in the future. |
