Character
History
The leader of the now retired band known as the
Blades of Faerun, Dagger had a long and harrowing career as an adventurer.
Despite his personal achievements, he was not well known in the
realms, a mere whisper among fellow woodsmen and elves. However,
he was well known by his mortal enemies - giants - and they spoke
of the 'shadowed warrior' with grudging respect. His band also achieved
more fame among the dark denizens and outcasts of the world rather
than in bard's tales and poets lyrics. This was due to their singular
quest for power, but not fame. They were unconcerned with achieving
a name, and stayed clear of governments and politics.
Despite this, Dagger did have a few ties to
the lands of Faerun. It was rumored by some that he was an ally
of the Harpers, though if he was, he rarely made contact with the
organization, trusting his own judgment and values to determine
the course of his actions, and not that of a group with an agenda.
The break-up of the Blades of Faerun did little
to impede Dagger's resolve to rid the lands - even those far from
humanity - of the evil giant race that had long been his nemesis.
He brought his struggle beyond the Spine of the World to the furthest
reaches of the north, seeking out his life-long enemies with the
aid of a new company, the Purple Arrows.
It is rumored that this company had a great many
travels and successes, but that ultimately a forbidding fate awaited
them. After extensive campaigns to the north, the Arrows located
a fortified keep of giants, larger and better run than any that
had been reported in hundreds of years. It was within the main hall
of this domain that Dagger supposedly fell; rumors say in a ferocious
battle with the great fire giants and their king. His treasures
were mostly left behind, and his body was not recoverable, destroyed
by a drow cleric and lost forever. The only two companions of the
Purple Arrows to escape and survive the return to the world of man
did so battered and defeated. It was the dawn of the Year of the
Shield, two years after they had departed. One of the bitter survivors,
the wizardress Narissa,
plans to form a new company in hopes of returning to the fire giant
layer and exacting her revenge.
