I'm still lookin for Lady K but I'm back at my hotel for most of the night, which is the Hilton on West Market Street, if anyone wants to drop by. Floors 11 and 14, both rooms 20. If no one answers after 5pm, then I'm probably down in the seafood restaurant in the lobby or out, for a half hr, at 7, on the horse carriages. The Hilton is about 3ish blocks away from the con, down near the government building with the large state out front if you pass the hyatt on your right and the westin on your left, just keep walking straight ahead then it'll be on the right.
Peers at Sage, where is your wife!
I'm expecting a phone call from her today [or email/IM--whatever she can access]. I didn't hear from her at all last night, which has got me a little worried. Though, the last time I talked to her, she said she'd be at the Seminar.
On the plus side, the Lady K did meet, briefly, with Ed. I can't recall whether she saw anyone else. Brian, perhaps? I know she missed Erik, which is unfortunate. Sorry Erik.

So, what happened at the Seminar? The official WoTC information on it is rather light, to put it mildly. |

Well, with out going into details at the moment (it's 1am, it's a Full Moon and I'm WIDE awake)
They kept it that way in the "Secrets of the Realms" - as JACKMONKEY was revealed other then "We've taken everything away, we aren't telling you much and you can come up with it to fill in the blanks"

Uzzy sorry to report it was very light on anything but novels, which I posted about here Secrets of the Realms : Report from GenCon 08
I remember Ed said that the new FRCS was great, but at least 400 pages to short. The rest of the panel agreed that it was. (Brian R Cordell, Rich Baker, Chris Sims) They haope to fill that gap with Dragon articles, which a 2 page web spreads on an area.
Halflings - a bit taller (maybe 6-9 inches by the panels hand gesturing) But the reason why or the fact they were shorter is not mentioned, it is just assumed they were always this tall.
Gnomes - Ed said are not gone from the realms completely , but as of now now reason or cause given for their decline.
Dragonborn - Are not the same as the 3.5 introduced Dragonborn. Rich Baker said that what happened here is that sometime int his business they get ahold of such a strong name that they cannot help but use it and need to overcome usuiagain. Also said it is a habit they are trying to and need to avoid. Said that new Dragonborn are not anything like previous. One major difference is theyDO NOT get along with Dragonkind, hinted that maybe the were a servant race for them and are opposed to Dragons.
Thats all the recall I have for now, sorry I did not take better notes! |

Just checking in briefly while waiting for my return flight home . . .
I apologise for not catching up with most of you. I did have the opportunity to meet one or two Keepers (D-brane, I think), but most of my time was spent chasing down things for the Sage (I don't think he realises just how big the Con is and how little time there is to see it all ).

Brian, Kuje, Neri, Red, and Alorin are all really great guys. I got to sign Brian's "yearbook" right next to RAS, and it was fun to hear his bother heckle him in the seminar. Alorin had a crazy (in a good way) group of guys with him at the con, and they were all a blast to run a game for. I'm really glad I got to see everyone that I did (and the best part of the seminar was getting to trade reactions with Red Walker and Kuje).
I concur with Lady K, though, its nearly impossible to do anything at the con without some major planning ahead of time. The place is huge, and events are all over the place. |

What a blast!!!
As a good friend of mine once said "No, there is too much, let me sum up."
From first to last:
Group of people huddled all but on top of the Hyatt Siagn.
Brian R James - What can I say Super nice guy, Uber talented, Great Beard....nuff said Brians better half - Verity/Toni James, sweet, cute, also uber talented...check out her realm here- http://www.veritysrealm.com/ Neri - Laid back, very nice....trying hard not to be too cool. (great hat) Mom _ very nice lady, should have asked who's Mom she was though! Kuje - exactly as he seems here Great guy. (Mysteriously pronounces Lady K? so apparently only I hear him utter Lady Gay?) KnightErrantJR - Great guy had a blast trading snarky instant critque of Secrets of the FR But I am still ticked that he isn't Jr. and there is no KnightErrant Sr. Garen Thal- Met him at Spin a yarn, which is a riot of great hilarity. Whith plenty of Ed being Ed. The mood being slighty undermined by Garen's swinging move of getting a "hot coffee" for the shivering WOTC hottie typing the notes. Led to Ed mumbling to her a quick testimonial for Garen. Oh he's sooooo smooth. THO would be proud. But alas damsels, he is spoken for so apparently he is "just that nice"
Ed- everything you hope for and more. Never shows fatigue, answers anything, loves the Realms as much as ever. If possible his wit is even quicker in person, exceeded only by the speed on his hands when making various gestures to differing regions of his body according th his tone!
Erik Scott de Bie - Even taller in RL, than you think. Very nice, very appreciative of his fans.
Pail S. Kemp - Great guy! Takes a special sort to admit you wrote your latest novels on a 2 day crack binge in Vegas!
Rich Baker - Nice guy, genuine, knows his stuff(and most everyone elses!!) By the way, I took a goood long look and contrary to a few scribes belief.....No horns anywhere to be found on his head...no tail or pitchfork either.
Bruce R. Cordell - Great guy. Had a nice chat as he was gracious enough to take time even though he was packing up to get somewhere else he belonged! Told him I thought he pushed the boundries quite a bit in Stardeep, he agreed and said that was his intent. Told him I was fine with it as he made it work, but would be curious to see where the boundries are after they stretch back a bit as they tend to do.

Hey, I was at the Secrets of the FR with my friend. I was in the blue Dunder Mifflin Shirt, and I asked about if the future of the Realms has room for high powered magic for PC use. I saw Brian to my right across the aisle and sat next to Chris Perkins from WotC. Was the Candlekeep crew up to the right front of the seminar room? |

Oh, I also witnessed Ed Greenwood drawing a pirate earring on Steve Schend. Those two guys were a blast! Paul Kemp was really cool to talk to as well. In fact I had a ball talking to anyone involved with WotC or FR. They were so nice and gracious. |

Yeah, we were in the second row from the front on the right hand side of the room (looking from the back forward). |

I just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone who came by--it was great to meet some of you I hadn't met before, and reunite with those of you I had. That's one of the best things about GenCon, at least for me.

Sunday morning, Jeff Thetford and I were sitting outside the Exhibit Hall with Kuje, brainstorming as to where the Lady K might be found. Of course, we had no idea what she looked like or where she was staying or how to contact her. So short of just walking up to every beautiful woman and asking . . .
Oh well. Some other day. And you'll BOTH have to come over.

Aw shucks!
I was very pleased that Phil Athans gave me the go-ahead (in person, in front of everyone) to tell everybody what Downshadow was about. Or, at least, where it takes place in Waterdeep. And it's not just because I like the story, but it's also because I like sharing info with you guys!
Also enjoyed tripping over the powerpoint projector equipment between Secrets and Spin a Yarn, then fleeing before anyone could catch me.

Quite right--meeting me is a riot of great hilarity.
Shelly Mazzanoble (one of Ed's appointed scribes for Spin a Yarn) was positively freezing, and as it would be entirely inappropriate for me to run across the seminar room to rub the poor woman, I politely excused myself, went to the Starbucks in the Marriott lobby, and bought the lovely Ms. Shelly a hot cup of tea. Shelly has done a great deal to remind female gamers that there is hope for them to remain amidst this predominantly male population, and it would be a shame to let her become a Popsicle before our very eyes.
Yes, it's true that I'm taken (apologies once again to Ed). It's also true that Shelly signed a copy of Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress for my girlfriend last year--a copy that Ed had snatched from the shelf and handed to me. At the very least, one cup of tea to save her from hyothermia was the least I could do.
And now to pose majestically atop the hill of bones of my enemies, and await the grateful throng... |

Yea, well and truly struck, noble Garen. Losing the fair Lady Mazzanoble and her pen of hilarity to Auril's grasp would have been a tragedy for the ages.

Aye.
I did provide Kuje with some brief details, though, I missed a few crucial points. It's my fault, actually, that this semi-planned meet went awry very quickly.
And I should've posted a picture. It's a little late now, I know, but the Lady K will be a regular feature in the picture gallery I intend to incorporate into my upcoming website/blog. So you'll all have some idea what to look for next year. [Myself included, hopefully]

I was so impressed by how laid back Brian seemed. What a humble fellow. He has done so much and yet he just seems at peace. I hope he does get more projects like his brother insisted upon. I am so eager to read the new Waterdeep novel series. Erik dropped some tempting tidbits at the seminar. There was so much personality in that seminar Ed Greenwood might have left a newly created mythal in there. Aren't we lucky to have such leaders paddling the boat that is the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting? They really are working to keep things positive and interesting. I regret that I did not approach the Candlekeep crew when I did suspect your lot as being the favored scribes of Oghma. |

The entire row of Keepers was snickering and laughing on Secrets. It was unfortunate, it honestly was, but some of the things they said honestly didn't make any sense. It really didn't get me convinced into 4e Realms via Wizard. I'm fairly certain we where upsetting another claimed Keeper in the front row whose name escapes me...but none the less.
Now...could someone PM me more on this Pathfinder series? I think my Redeemers might just happen to jump Realms of their own :P
Anyways. It was fantastic, cant' wait to see the pictures Mrs. James took, along with video she and Brian took. I'm sure I'm a real dork in all of it (as Red said, my hat was quiet the work).
Next year, I intend on wearing my robe and dressing up (and being in the spot of having my picture taken) |

The wizard was my greatest concern at the Seminar. I worry about it too but I hope I find some peace in 4th edition or I will be falling back to 3.5 and I want to try this new stuff first. |

I was really impressed that they "shut down" the con on Saturday for a minute or so for a moment of silence for the passing of Gary Gygax. It was very classy. |
