The laws of each nation vaey. In USA there is a "fair use" exception to posting copyrighted material. The fair use needs to be related to the issue being discussed. IOW (In Other Words) you can not post the entire PHB and point to a few words as a source for discussion (some many do highlight of what they considered a key passage of a paragraph or two), but can post some copyerighted material to support an opinion.
For actual legal opinion as what is "fair use" or not the best advice is to consult a legal quailified advisor on internet law. The second, less perferred but less costly is to reseach the various websites that discuss Internet and Copyright law. |

Well, I had posted some info about Chaulssin and her Masters and I was told by a forum owner that is a friend that I can't have that info posted. It wasn't an entire source book, it was just a small clip, if you will, from the CoF Web Enhancement.
I have said info posted on Chaulssin's MySpace and have yet to recieve any complaints. So, what should I do?? |

In general, you're safe if it's a short excerpt and is properly credited. A paragraph or two, maybe, with at the least the title of the book (page numbers would also be good), is a good standard for credit.
Look at it this way: if it would fly with a college professor on your major research paper, it's prolly safe. If not, then don't do it.
However, keep in mind that I'm not a lawyer, I don't play one on TV, and it's far from my favorite profession. |
