I can't seem to find any information on Waxing of the Moon outside of the short blurb in Lost Empires. I assume it is not canonical?
What determines if an adventure is canonical or not? I know many people are seeing the Ascension of Amaunator, from Power of Faerun, as canon. Is it just that the events are dated?
I ask because I think bringing the Netherese city of Selunnara to fight Shade seems fitting. *shrugs*

Rogue: So what's in the general store? DM: What are you looking for? Rogue: Whatevers in the store. DM: Like what? Rogue: Everything. DM: There is a lot of stuff. Rogue: Is there a cart outside? DM: (rolls) Yes. Rogue: We'll take it all, we may need it for the greater good. |

If it is in a book containing the Forgotten Realms logo or if it comes by the word of Greenwood it is Canon. In all cases new lore trumps old. With adventures, as Computer games, one specific ending (usually successful) will be the canonical version. |

(Other than Neverwinter Nights, which was going to be canon, but Wizards changed their mind. And therefore, Neverwinter Nights 2 isn't canon either.) |

Just to make it a little clearer, since Dungeon/Dragon doesn't have the FR logo, but they to are canon.
As for the topic: There are a lot of mini adventures, and throw away lines of text, that are canon that haven't been referenced in years. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

So if people here were to run this adventure about when would think to place it?? Soon after Shade was grounded, late 1372 DR? After the events of the Risen Sun Heresy in 1374 DR? Or sometime 1375 DR+ as the culmination of the defeat of Shade? |

Hasn't yet to my knowledge but this adventure could very well lead to it.
Might be the final blow, might be the first, seems like the adventures events would be large enough to at least do some damage. |

Actually, Shade wasn't actually grounded, its Mythallar was damaged, which caused it to loose altitude and its ability to move around. It never hit the ground, it just dropped really low for a while.
The Risen Sun Heresy is a little different that the Waxing of the Moon, because its given specific dates, and some of the set up has already been made "official" up to this point. And even at that, what happens "next" is still up in the air as far as that goes.
What is official so far about Selunarra is that A) It exists, and B) that if the events presented in the "Waxing of the Moon" hook were to happen, then events would unfold as written. But no specific dates were given in that hook, so there isn't a "deadline" for this to occur.
(Spoilers for the Twilight War Series):
Selunarra may not have an even fight on its hands if its summoned back now that Sakkors is part of the Empire of Shade as well. But then again, there are two more novels, and the rest of the "Super Adventure" trilogy to go before we see what the Empire of Shade is finally composed of. |
