So I was going over the events of 1371 DR in Grand History of the Realms a little earlier seeing what I could roll into my campaign at which point I see this:

quote:
Evermeet, Island of Elves, is nearly destroyed by a sneak attack of revel elves and drow. The twin spires of the Towers of the Sun and Moon are destroyed. Elvish High Magic is lost. The Tree of Souls is planted, and a new elven homeland is born.

I had heard of this event but never heard that High Magic was lost due to it. Can anyone please elaborate?

Rogue: So what's in the general store?
DM: What are you looking for?
Rogue: Whatevers in the store.
DM: Like what?
Rogue: Everything.
DM: There is a lot of stuff.
Rogue: Is there a cart outside?
DM: (rolls) Yes.
Rogue: We'll take it all, we may need it for the greater good.

Myself, I'd change that to a lot of it is lost on Evermeet because the towers were supplying the power as were the high mages that were killed. I wouldn't say it was lost across the world, that makes no sense.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

That's good to hear.

Hopefully, the entry in GHotR will make the kind of distinction Kuje mentioned above -- noting that the area of greatest disruption/loss of Elven High Magic occured on Evermeet itself.
