Do any scribes know of any info on the dwarven ruin known as Southkrypt in the Kryptgarden forest?
I found some info in The North that says its infested with a number of creatures including a Hill Giant Vampire and its spawn
Anyone know any further info?
Mod Edit: Moved to a more appropriate shelf.

See also Volo's Guide to the North, Waterdeep and the North and the Savage Frontier tome.
There were some slight 'Kryptgarden' tidbits in the timeline for the "Old North" in Lost Empires of Faerűn also.

That hill giant vampire was included in a Dragon magazine article a long time ago. With the Karanok family vampire. Someone will be along presently to give you an issue number.

There's also some discussion in FR11 - Dwarves Deep. I think it's a ruin of Haughannadaur (sp?).

Maybe this can be of some help ....
I remember two adventuers in long ago Dungeons. One in #52 called "Welcome to the Krypthome" it should have something to do with dwarves but at least with Kryptgarden Forest. The other one called "Streams of Silver" is also located north of Waterdeep and it is about a dwarven stronghold ... possibly Southkrypt do not remember the Issue number but I have both of them somewehere ... |

I (very) recently asked Ed a question about the Swordkrypt Mountains and he said that Southkrypt has been under NDA since TSR days. I presume that someone, somewhere along the line, thought that it would be a good site for a dungeon module. Many of us seem to agree!

I recently acquired that issue and Krypthome is a fortress/mine built by an elven wild-mage with the help of dwarves and humans. It's not Southkrypt and there's no mention of that 'dungeon' and very little information about the forest beyond the trail that leads to Krypthome. |

Dragon 236 Children of the Night definitely does talk about a hill giant vampire shaman named Morg.
Morg turned mercenary with hobogoblins, when turned out by his tribe. The mercenaries tried to take out Southkrypt Garden and were trounced. Morg became a vampire when praying to his god Grolantor, but instead something else turned him into a vampire.
He has 3 hill giant vampire spawn, some hobogoblin vampire spawn and a hobogoblin tribe who guard the forest. "In the lair are xaren, vilstrak, vargouilles, storopers and other creatures along with several unsprung traps put in by the dwarves who lived here long ago". In the lair the vampires reside on the lowest level, except when Morg is out and about the forest.
The hobogoblins sow false treasure maps and rumours when they get a chance.
Hope that helps. |
