Hi:
The content of my office has finally achieved critical mass, with the massive mountain of paper and toys and ephemera threatening to collapse in on itself like a black hole. So I'm stalling that Apocalypse by putting some things up on eBay, starting with a couple of items of interest to Realms collectors--a 16-issue lot of Polyhedron magazines, most of which contain Ed Greenwood's Everwinking Eye column; the FR Interactive Atlas CD ROM; and a copy of the elusive Realms newsletter, Secrets of the Sages.

Wow... I'd love to get that stuff (save for the Atlas, which I already have). 
However... I would like to thank you for making a point of discussing the auctions here. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who would prefer having something owned by a designer, as opposed to something owned my some random person. And posting about the auctions here gives myself and my fellow scribes a better shot at winning them.  |

Mr. Lowder just wanted to thank you for opening this scroll to let us know about it. I don't look into ebay much unless there is something that I want. I felt this was the best time to pick up a whole stack of Polyhedron as before I didn't realise that it had Realms articles in it. So I went ahead and bid on it and won so now I have a whole lot of information to read upon once it reaches me.
[EDIT 1] I hope it isn't too much to ask but is there any chance you could sign a couple of them for me? I try to never pass up an opportunity to get an autograph when it presents itself.
[EDIT 2] Has been so long since I bought anything from Paypal didn't remember to update it with my new chacking account. I am in the process of verifing it and once that is done will pay for it. (I hope there won't be anymore edits.) |

| Ha! I must admit that I do occasionally get something free, but only if it's directly related to what I'm working on (for instance, they sent me the Tome of Magicd an a PDF of Dragon Magic and Complete Mage for the Magic Item Compendium). Normally, I have to go get it like the rest of you. |

The juiciest Ravenloft item for sale is still in shrinkwrap, but I already have a copy. Some guy named Monte Somethingorother wrote his name inside the front cover. *sigh* I guess I ought to buy a clean copy....

Still uncovering stuff here. I put the Kara-Tur trail map up this morning. (I have one of the core Realms trail maps, but drew on that when working on Crusade--that, and a couple other maps, used to hang in my office at TSR.)
I should also be putting some old TSR catalogs up there shortly (circa 1990-1993), along with some promo stuff. The catalogs are cool because they include a lot of rough art and sometimes products that never came out. I might even part with a few extra bound PR copies of a couple of my Realms novels (the versions that were sent out to reviewers before the books were published).
By the by, I was looking at the product list here; if I can find my old Realms PR pin, I'll take a picture of that for the site.
Of course, that promotional Realms logo pin wasn't nearly as cool as the Harpers pins TSR nearly produced. Before the Harpers book line launched, I pitched the idea of creating Harpers pins, like those the group's members wear, for PR use. Management liked the idea. At first, the pins were going to be given away at Gen Con to anyone who bought a couple of Harpers novels. Then the pins were upgraded from PR items and were going to be included in the Harpers boxed set. But when rising production costs forced that product to downsize to a book format--it became Code of the Harpers)--the pin idea was dropped. Too much time had passed for the company to use PR pins to help launch the books, and the bosses were too concerned about costs to include them elsewhere.
It's too bad. That could have been a very nice collector's item.

That would be much appreciated, Jim  I've been searching for the FR pin for a LONG time, I only ever managed to get the TSR pin (treasured alongside my TSR mug  ). An image for the site would be great, anyway.
I echo Wooly, the Harper pin would surely have gone down VERY well with Realms fans. |

I think the best part about the pins would have been that they doubled as a sort of in-game artifact, too.
As part of my pitch I also suggested, among other things, that the pin be used at Gen Con for discounts on Realms novels, or at least Harpers novels, and things like that. I think the company could have really done interesting things with it.

I've come across a couple of Realms items that should be added to the promotional or miscellaneous items list over on the Bookshelf:
1993 TSR Master Catalog--Collector's Edition (TSR #9912). This expanded hardcover catalog contains essays introducing TSR's various games and settings, in addition to the product listings for the year. Ed Greenwood wrote a three-page essay on the Realms, "Remembrances of the Forgotten Realms Setting." The essay talks about the creation of the Realms and how the setting has truly become a "shared world."
TSR also produced promotional bookmarks in 1990 and 1991 for several different book series. I can verify that one was created for the Empires Trilogy; I can scan that, if you'd like. (I also have the one done for the first two Ravenloft books.) But I believe there were others done for Realms books, too. I might be wrong about this, but I recall a bookmark done for Salvatore's Dark Elf series, one done for the first three Harpers books, and a mark done for the Maztica series.
Finally, there was a 3" by 5" promotional magnet created for the R.A. Salvatore novel, Servant of the Shard.

| I've got the bookmark with Jander Sunstar on it, from Vampire of the Mists... I think it was a freebie, when I ordered Oriental Adventures from the TSR Mail Order Hobby Shop. And I'd have to check, but I'm pretty certain the bookmark has remained in that book for the entire 10+ years I've had it! |

Right. The Ravenloft one has the art from the cover of Vampire of the Mists on it. It promotes the first two Ravenloft novels. I know there was one for the Dragonlance Meetings books. I ran across one of those around here the other day in a book. For the Realms, in addition to the Empires Trilogy bookmark, I recall a Drizzt bookmark, a Maztica bookmark, and a Harpers bookmark, but my memory might be faulty on those.
The bookmarks were given out at Gen Con, at author signings, and sent out with some orders from the Mail Order Hobby Shop, which ran out of the same building as TSR in Lake Geneva.
