Devil's Due has a very active trade paperback program, so it's safe to say the series should be collected into trade paperbacks.

My question... Are we just going to have adaptations of existing tales, or will we see new stories? |

Initially it will be adaptations, but I have raised the possibility of new stories. It's currently being discussed at Hasbro.

After doing alittle research after Elaine dropped about Arilyn making it into the comic series, discovered in Preview (and on the DD website) that the first to issues have Drizzt, Raistlin and Palin. |
"Evil prevails when good men fail to act." The original and unapologetic Arilyn, Aribeth, Seoni Fanboy. |

Right. Issues #1 and #2 will have adaptations of two stories (half the adaptation in each). The Realms story is "Dark Mirror." The Dragonlance story is "The Legacy." Future Realms stories will feature Elminster, Arilyn, Cale, and other important Realms icons. Some of the stories will be 40-pages long, split between two issues. Others will be 20 pages and complete in one issue.

Ah ha! So my speculation in another thread about the issues being 48 pages long with a split story/shared issue were correct. :P |

Absolutely. Two stories per issue, from two different worlds. There will be Realms stories in the majority of the issues.

Majority? Interesting, that means Dragonlance could be cycled out for Eberron or one of the other discontinued but still popular settings. |

Right. There might be issues in which we run, say, a Dragonlance and a Ravenloft story, but not a Realms story. I'll be mixing things up. Right now there are Realms, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, and Eberron stories on the schedule. I'm talking to authors about possible Dark Sun and Greyhawk tales, too. But the Realms and Dragonlance, as you might expect, will be the anchor worlds.

Ok.. big question time James...
Assuming original work starts to get published in it (and hopeful from notable and established authors!), will it be consider canon and part of the continuity of their respective world or will it be like most of the D&D comics and really not acknowledge?
Please keep in mind, we'll all buy this even if it's not. :) |

That's entirely up to Hasbro and WotC. If we get permission to do originals--and that's still just a query from DDP at this point--I'd want to include the same authors I'm already talking with on the adaptations (Greenwood, Grubb, Cunningham, Kemp, etc). And I'd do whatever I could to make the material work with continuity. But whether or not it's declared part of the official Realms would be entirely up to Hasbro and WotC.
The DC comics were part of continuity. At least they were at one time. We reviewed them inhouse at TSR as if they were.

deifnately nice work so far looking forward to it. I know the recently released World of Warcraft comic from Wildstorm was better received than anticipated. I'm wondering if that has any effect on what Devil's Due is thinking about the future of D&D comics. |

DDP was happy with the initial orders for issue #1, and those were placed before anyone saw the interior art. I think a lot of people are going to pick up the book off the stands because of Rafael's artwork on the Drizzt story. I think fans of the entire Realms line, and the fans of the various other D&D-related worlds (Ravenloft, Eberron, maybe even Dark Sun or Greyhawk), will give the book a try as we showcase different characters and worlds. That begins with the third issue.*
[*Addendum: This isn't to say that Drizzt won't show up in the book every once in a while, too.]

Fair enough. But they are probably happy with the sales of the recently Warcraft comic as evidence of the possible appeal to a fantasy comic especially one with a built in fan base. |

The Warcraft audience--the people who are familiar with and connected as current consumers to the brand--is much larger than the Forgotten Realms audience or even, I think, the D&D audience. Certainly the success of the Warcraft comic is a good sign, but for Worlds of D&D to succeed, we need to draw in a substantial number of existing readers of the novels and players of the RPG, and then reach out to fans of good sword & sorcery comics. I think the book has the chance to do both.

Somebody may have brought this up already, but Paul Kemp sent out a notice that there will be an Erevis Cale comic. That's a character that I think would work well visually! |

Right now, the plans are to adapt one of the Cale stories in the first dozen issues. Hasn't been set in stone yet as to which issue it'll be, or which story, but it's in the works.
