I find myself asking the same question. |

Power gaming is better suited to the WotC boards.
You'll find people here are no so into 'crunch' as they are fluff.
So if you had a tale to tell about a tattooed Monk from the Bloodstone lands that would be a different story. Damn shame about his drinking problem though..... |

I've never really had many players that wanted to keep going on a regular basis with characters higher than 20th level, in any edition of the game. I've had players that wanted, for a one shot adventure, to revisit some old "retired" high level characters, just for fun, once in a while, but not to play them in a long term campaign.
My gut instinct tells me that even if I had players that absolutely wanted to play epic characters, I'd top them out around 30th, at the absolute most. They would have enough time to play around with all of the crazy options and PrCs for epic characters, but they wouldn't get into the increasingly repetitive and boring feeling of . . . "oh, wow, I got another level, now I can do at least ten god like things at once." |

Even then I don't even thing the WotC posters are keen on this sort of open ended "contest." If anything, they're more focused, with a definite end goal and explicit rules for a full exploration of the concept through mechanics.

I'd read it. |

I've never got that either. I find lower level play more interesting, and as DM the higher level the players are, the harder you have to work to keep things both interesting and challenging. |

I tend to agree, Reefy. I did however have a 29th level bard in 2E, and I had tons of fun playing him all the way up. Of course, EXP requirements being what they were back then, 29th level bard is not exceptionally challenging.
Incidentally, Kane, here's the forum that you're looking for: http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=339 br /
This is the WotC Character Optimization boards.
As previously noted, they are not really open to such vague and open-ended contests, and they typically cap their progressions at 20th (as the vagueries of Epic Level progression is honestly a matter of conjecture and rarely legally attainable).
Also, if you go there, prepare to hear that Reaping Mauler is one of the least optimal choices for a Prestige Class of all time. So is making any kind of monk that specializes in grappling.
Just a heads up. |

Yeah effing right.
Why not just call him a level 1000 monk and call it a night? |
