I'd have to say Waterdeep, where else can you get such a variety of people? Elven and human, evil and good, noble and peasant, dungeons, and the biggest Golem in Faerun!

Obviously Waterdeep is a huge city (although they say not the largest in the Realms!) and is so varied and exciting the most will say its their favorite. I have always liked Iriebor though, always came across as quite a dark atmosphere and the way the city was built upon a great mound spiraling around the stronghold atop always appeared really imposing and powerful.

Like I said mine is Waterdeep, but I've always wondered how big it actually is?

I read somewhere (it might be the FRA but im not sure), that Calimport is larger than Waterdeep, although no where near as grand and varied......just rows of shacks and tents on the outskirts.

I think Calimport had a very big population in 2 ed, but I think they changed that in 3 ed. They have decreased the pop almost everywhere though.

Waterdeep is without a doubt the most detailed city in the realms. It does offer most every opportunity for any adventure from dungeons to political intrigue and can even be the base for sea going AND spell jamming. However, it only takes a good DM to make a place interesting. Every aspect of a truly unique city can be the most exciting place to be IF time is taken to properly flesh it out.

Forget everything you might think of anything. Your opionin is too subjective. Everbody has to agree that MULMASTER is the best, coolest, wickedest, rulest, city in all of fearun (heck even beyond)
Wondass is a nice place, but we will have to see how things will look after the dust has fallen.

Wondass?!? Never heard of it! I would like to see WotC release a Cities accessory detailing many cities of the Realms from all over Faerun, not just one particular region. In a similar way to the cities section in the FRA. A good map showing locations of interest and details on the city. Now THAT would be very useful for many DM's.

What do you mean you never heard of Wondass??? It's mentioned in many sourcebooks, and in several novels too. The great heroes Jinx and Vathelos even are from that city. |

Hows about Candlekeep then? or Shadowdale? and if not Menzoberanzen, then Eryndlyn, the second largest Drow city? |

Greetings and well met, to all the peoples of this glorious forum.
I am the Sage of Perth, and I felt that it was necessary for myself, to also give an honourable mention to what I believe is the coolest city/town in Faerun.
After viewing this topic I see very little support for the town of Shadowdale.
Shadowdale is one of my favorites, and many a campaign of mine has been started there. The town has a bit of everything that makes campaigning exciting...a quite unassuming village, several powerful individuals whom call the hamlet home, numerous areas for exploration, it is a crossroads to nearly everywhere in the heartlands, and finally, it is the home of Elminster the Sage.
So lets see some more support for Shadowdale.
Until next time...

I dont dislike Shadowdale but i think its highly overrated. After all its just a bunch of a dozen or so buildings surrounded by farmland (hope Elminsters not listening )
There are many many other villages of this size and even bigger throughout Faerun that are never mentioned or mapped. Shadowdale is really only significant due to the people who live there or are associated with it, but as a place, its nothing spectacular.

Year Rad you are right, (may I say how brillant you are), but it's the meaning of shadowdale, I personaly think it's a great place.
p.s. Drizzt your pathetic comments only prove how inferiour you are. |
