Hi guys. For the past year I've been running a set of concurrent solo adventures on Roleplay Online. One player has dropped out and now I am looking for a replacement. It's set in the Realms, basically anywhere you want your character to start out in. Your character would be the only PC in your game; the story would unfold around your character. You would have to start out at level one, but the experience points are awarded generously (to compensate for the long periods web-adventures tend to take.) Please take a look if the game play would suit you:

OK. What are some points of confusion? (First of all, it will be held on the RPOL site, on the sub-forum that I have linked to.) |

Any books you wish to use. If you have a rulebook that I don't, I would ask you to tell me what the rules are. Please PM me with the desired race / class and backstory of your character. |

All rulebooks and classes are OK. You roll the stats, but please do not do detailed character creation unless I have selected your character. I'm just looking for basic information ( race / class / alignment ), backstory, and what you'd like to achieve with the character. Characters will be evaluated mainly on the basis of how compelling the backstory is. |

RodOdom, here is my submission for your consideration. The concept is a spellfire wielding LE aasimar near-heretic cleric of Mystra (requires the use of the variant rules for powerful races at 1st level found on page 190 of the Player's Guide to Faerun to make him an ECL 1 equivalent). This is a very powerful character build but since it is solo play I figure that shouldn't matter as much.
Background Lucivious, the fallen aasimar cleric of Mystra, was born to a Mercane father and a human cleric of Mystra mother in Dweomerheart before the Time of Troubles. Life was good and right on the magical plane then, as Lucivius had been marked with favor by the goddess's blessing. His parents were very proud of the fact that Lucivious was chosen to be a spellfire wielder and expected great things for him.
Then the Time of Troubles came and the real Mystra was replaced by the naive Midnight and Lucivious's life changed. The well ordered surety of life in Dweomerheart, under Mystra's guiding hand, became a life of uncertainty as Midnight tinkered with the foundations of magic and tried to impose her own simplistic moral views upon the world.
The danger was immediately obvious to Lucivious, who realized that many traditional spellcasters who had worshipped the Mystra of old, seeking power in the Art, would feel spurned and could be easily drawn into the Lady of Loss's clutches. Reality itself depended upon the Lady of Loss never achieving her apocalyptic dreams and all other moral considerations were irrelevant in comparison.
Lucivious was one of many would be advisors to Mystra, who counseled maintaining a strict adherence to moral neutrality to maximize the number of souls who would be lured to Mystra and equally as important to minimize the number of souls that would be lured to Shar. As the decades passed, most of these orthodox believers have been swayed into the new Mystra's point of view however Lucivious has become even more extreme in his viewpoint fearing that he is watching the end of the cosmos.
Lucivious launched petitions and organized rallies against the new Mystra's policies, in an effort to sway those policies but all to no avail. Viewed as a radical and increasingly marginalized, Lucivious has been utterly discredited in Dweomerheart by his political rivals. Still Lucivious has always been alert for signs that Shar was preparing to launch her final assault to destroy the cosmos.
Lucivious took the arrival of the City of Shade in Faerun as a sign that Shar was ready to launch her final assault. Unable to sway policy in Dweomerheart, Lucivious descended to Faerun where he intends to take a direct hand in opposing the machinations of Shar.
None can deny, Lucivious love of magic and his passionate defense of the Weave however Lucivious is far from humble or reserved in his use of magic. Lucivious likes the raw power of magic and he wields it like a ravaging lover, which puts him in direct odds with the mainstream dogma of the faith.
Lucivious hopes to attract similarly minded wizards and clerics to start a heresy, which he hopes will change the dogma of the faith to be more accepting of those who seek magic for the sake of raw power. To do this Lucivious has traveled to Cimbar, in Chessenta, and joined the college of wizardry there. Lucivious is seeking to foment a rebellion in nearby Luthcheq against the magic hating cult of Entropy, which he sees as a natural enemy of the faith.
Lucivious hopes to recruit former Luthcheq wizards into his heresy using the promise of freeing the city from its anti-magic overlords. Lucivious is also seeking to hunt down the shadow adept Aeron Morieth or any other shadow weave user that he hears about since anyone using shadow weave magic is an infidel and must be slain before the corruption spreads. Lucivious dreams of eventually leading a crusade against the City of Shade itself but he realizes he must build his power base first so for now he contents himself with assassinating lone enemies of the faith with his spellfire…

In case Lucivious was not an acceptable character for your campaign here are a couple of alternative character concepts that I would be interested in playing:
Scribbler
Scribbler is a human merchant mage struggling to make a living in the cutthroat world of the magic scroll trade. Living in plague-ridden Scardale, Scribbler's business was dealt a severe blow with the recent establishment of the Thayian Enclave in Scardale. The enclave has undercut his scroll prices, driven away many of his clients and ruined Scribbler's business. Nearly destitute, Scribbler was forced to carve out a new niche market and find a new source of clientele. Against his better judgement, Scribbler is slowly being drawn into the criminal underworld.
Scribbler is an old neutral human wizard. Scribbler is a merchant, not an adventurer. He seeks to build up a mercantile empire by employing his magic skills. Scribbler is likely to face fierce competition from the Thayian Enclaves and the Zhentarim while suffering extortion threats and random burglarly. Scribbler is likely to get involved in the criminal world and multi-class into a Rogue before eventually becoming an Arcane Trickster, however his skills will be socially based instead of physical.
One possible sideline business would be ambushing fellow low level mages to steal their spellbooks. Scribbler dislikes killing though so he would employ sleep spells and similar non-lethal tactics, if he was forced to sink to this level.
Another possible avenue to riches would be the establishment of trade in Spell Favors. Spell Favors would be bearer bonds entitling the bearer to have a certain level of spell cast for them. If a bank based upon Spell Favors could be established with sufficient wizards or clerics to cover potential redemption rates then issuing Spell Favor Bonds would be just like printing money. Negotiating with spellcasters to back his endeavor and finding investors and clients would likely make up the primary focus of Scribbler's initial roleplaying. (Note: As a Mercane, Lucivious would likely attempt a similar scheme in Cimbar if that was the character chosen instead.)
Justice
Justice is a LG cleric of Tyr. Living in Mistledale, Justice is a strident defender of law and order. With a strong grasp of military tactics, especially the application of magic to achieve decisive victory. Justice will likely become a Thaumaturgist and specialize in summoning Archons. Calling Lantern Archon lesser planar allies to act as messengers and couriers, with bags of holding if available to provide for troop movement, Justice hopes to organize all the temples of the Triad throughout Faerun so that they can provide a coordinated response to the evils that threaten Faerun.
To help pay for the war effort and to thwart the forces of darkness, in particular the drow plaguing Mistledale, Justice also would like to have the Lantern Archons produce thousands of Everburning Torches which could be exchanged for donations from followers of the Triad.
Esprit
Esprit is an exalted CG elan psion telepath from another reality who accidentally got sucked into one of Halaster's Undermountain traps. Fortunately Esprit was rescued be a band of adventurers and he now resides in Waterdeep. Adventurous at heart and intrigued by this new world, Esprit is happy to wander around the city and experience whatever it has to offer.
Esprit is in particular fascinated by the foreign concept of gods and seeks to emulate their abilities. Esprit will likely take a vow of poverty as part of his spiritual quest to shake off his ties to the mortal world. As he progresses further with his study into godhood, he will likely become a Thrallherd, as he builds up a base of worshippers, and eventually a Psion Uncarnate as he finally sheds his mortal ties.
