I was originally going to try to do a big long write consisting of the consolidation of the information from FR14 Great Glacier, the FRCS, and the information in The Ruin, but it looks like a rather large task to consolidate all of those things at the moment, plus I'm still up in the air over some specific "fact" about Iryclea, how long she has been in the glacier, etc.

At the same time, between the Ruin and Frostburn, I had some ideas about the Great Glacier as far as a campaign setting in the current time, and wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts or potential issues with some ideas I had, and I wanted to hear any ideas that anyone else had as well.

One of the things that I was thinking of was having some of the Ulutians starting to more devoutly worship Auril after having been pressed into Iryclea's service. Great Glacier already mentions that some misguided Anglelutiuns (sp?) worship her, and I thought that perhaps thier conscription might have made beleivers out of more of them. I also wanted to have some of the Nakulutions (sp?) starting to have a prophesy about the waking of Ulutiu.

As far as this prophesy goes, the Ulutians have a legend of the "great beasts" (I may change the name later, I don't want to TOO obvious that I'm cutting and pasting this idea from Alpha Flight), that are set to return to this world. The great beasts are fiendish/evil fey kind of creatures that are powerful and destructive and cause nature to run amok (hm, now that I mention this, for some reason I'm thinking of George and his potential Narfell angle on things . . .)

A shaman among the Nakulutiuns has set out to get more followers to help him find Ulutiu and wake him up, and Ulutiu will then aid him in driving off the Great Beasts. The Anglelutiuns that beleive this prophesy are actually starting to count on Auril to keep them safe when the Great Beasts come back.

The arctic dwarves are still recovering from being pressed into Iryclea's service. Dwarven merchants from Hillsafar Hall have started to arrive on the glacier, and they are paying in fine goods, weapons, and the like to have the arctic dwarves guide them to patches of blue ice so that the dwarves can make weapons and armor from them and sell them.

A frost giant wizard that served under Iracylea is trying to consolidate her old forces under his command. The claws are under his command, and he is begining to rework his own palace in the ice. Further, he has decided that any old truce between the dwarves adn the giants is moot, and has begun to command his giants to head out and enslave them and the humans of the glacier.

A company of paladins from Damara and the Bloodstone region have set up a fortress in the southern portion of the glacier. These paladins are paladins of Ilmater as well as a few of the human paladins that now revere Bahamut, though the two groups are unified in purpose. Some white dragons from the cult of the Dragon have fled north, and once on the glacier, the paladins decided to set up shop to help shore up the glacier against evil. The paladins have a silver dragon ally, and call themselves the Knights of the Great Glacier (which can be modeled with the PrC Knight of the Iron Glacier). The fortress since it is well patrolled, has gathered some Vassan merchants (which fits with Gareth Dragonbane's goal to untie the two regions, begining with good will), and the paladins are on good terms with some of the local Ulutiuns, some of whom worship Ilmater (by another name).

Some of the people of Sossal that were abducted by Iryclea willingly converted to her cause, and they have been magically altered by their association with Auril into Frost Folk. In fact, Iryclea began her program of kidnapping, converting, and altering Sossal residents years before she made her push to consolidate power in the great glacier.

Some of the abondoned cities in the Novularound are ancient dwarven and giant cities, but there are also old avariel cities there as well.

Thats most of my ideas in a nutshell for the region. Any comments, ideas, or thought on how you altered or used the glacier in a campaign?

Hmmm... great ideas! If I passed my knowledge (comics) skill check, I seem to remember that Alpha Flight -story. One of the great beasts was called Tundra, right? Maybe you could use those "spawn of the gods" -monsters from the Epic Level Handbook? There was, at least, a colossal ice creature, that was born from the deities of ice and cold.

Are the Frost Folk detailed in Frostburn? I was thinking of trying to run a Polaris -campaign in the High Ice -region, or maybe in the Great Glacier?

Heh heh, you remembered . . . and it turned out that Sasquatch from the team was actually Tanaraq of the Great Beasts . . . good idea on the "god spawn" monsters there . . . I'll have to think about it, but those may work.

Frost Folk are indeed detailed in Frostburn. So far its been my favorite of the terrain books.

Alpha Flight, eh? Thats a blast from the past.

When hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.
