I'm returning to running a Realms campaign after almost 8 years of running a series of camapigns in a campaign of my own design. In this ne Realms campaign my players will be playing the sons or daughters of the last group of characters that we played in the Realms. I intend to run each of my players in solo or small group adventures until they reach 3rd level at which point they will come together. This will help the players to get a feel for their chracters before interacting with the rest of the party.
Of these characters, one in particular is a young initiate of the Tower fo Mysteries in Saerloon Sembia. As I'm sure everyone here knows, Saerloon is a virtual hot bead of villany. Between the Night Masks, the Eyeless Mask, the Thayan Enclaves, the Darkhouse (and other Shar worshipers) and the Cult of the Dragon, there is more than enough villinous presence to keep a full campaign going. What I'm attempting to do, however, is to use Saerloon as a starting place, where I can have this character experience a few adventure while he completes his training and early clerical duty. I'm curious what advice and suggestions the sages at Candlekeep would give.
To help you understand the character I'll give a little backgroup, he is the product of a short romance that happened between the party's half-elven wild mage (from second edition) and a young Sembian originally from Ordulin. While visiting Ordulin the Wild Mage became invovled with the Rot Grubs and met the young lady who was an idealist, rather than your typical Rot Grub. After a sort adventure the two fo them manged to offend certain interest in the Rot Grubs and they were betrayed and "sold" to a psion (at the time, a psionicist) who has a villa and estate on the outskirt of Sembia where he attempted to "unlock the hidden talent buried in their minds". Eventually the party Paladin came looking for the Wild Mage and overcame the Psions guards and freed the two of them and they parted company, but not before they had a short romance fueled by the desperation of the situation that resulted in the character that my player will be playing.

FR Adventures has a few like the elder Urskanvan which was the house that was used in the Sembia novels. :) Yes, I probably spelled that wrong. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Uskevren.
And there are a few other Sembian noble/merchant families mentioned in the 2e FR boxed set, as well as in the Sembia novels. Of specific note are the stories 'The Burning Chalice' and 'Song of Chaos' from the Halls of Stormweather anthology which both references a number of prominent Sembian nobles and families. As well, a few nobles are mentioned in the Perivel Uskevren birthday ball detailed in Chaps. 3 and 4 of Shadow's Witness.
