| Intelligent items are described in the DMG. They have some ability scores and a rating called "ego" but they do not gain class levels as they are phantoms of a personality and cannot have true experiences of their own. |

I don't know how to play 2ed d&d. the only thing I know from that edition is that thaco means To hit AC 0. 3ed IMHO is far superior, as I suggested in your other thread. If you are determined to find the exact definition in older editions you would have to ask a different sage... that is if there even are rules for that in the older editions.
edit: oh and u can call me -beir for short its easier for you guys! |

| I'd rather play 2e, it didn't have so many complicated rules but most people have moved on. :) However, I still have all my 1e and 2e material. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Indeed.
It's a rare occurence for me to rely strictly on 3e rules in my campaigns. I started with 1e... incorporated elements of 2e when it was released, most of it actually, and now, in 3e/3.5e... I borrow what I like. As such, most of my campaigns are run using a 1e/2e D&D/AD&D/OD&D ruleset system with a sprinkling of 3e rules for "taste."

I switched from 2nd edition to 3.x because it makes my life as DM much easier, and I don't get any more annoying questions from people how this or that is to be rolled.
I still use source material and adventures from the previous editions and will allways do so. |

It is 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition..they have been around from the beginning...it was more for weapons in 1st and 2nd...now with optional rules and the ease of making constructs in 3rd E. anything could be an intelligent item
though I remember in some modules intelligent items/weapons that are really trapped souls of living beings that thus would have class levels (but wouldn't be able to advance further)
and I think in Volo's Guide to All Things Magic Crenshinabon is described in detail |

| My only point on wether or not they are in the previous editions is that those editions seem to me to be so scattered adn the ideas are more qualitative than quantitative. Which is alright for storytelling but in a game that by definition needs rules its not the best. I take lore from 2ed (I dont really have anything from 1ed) but all game rules I use 3+E. |

Er, well those are his short stats at least. For the long stats, ya'll have to find the books that are listed. :) |

| If you go to his files, the relevant books that he got his info from are in a column on the far right. Just go down to Zaknafien and check there. Kuje is really a life saver when it comes to this! |
