I don't have access to the module where Waukeen was held hostage by Graz'zt during/after the Time of Troubles. Could someone summarise Graz'zt's motivation for doing so, how Waukeen was treated, where she was held... thanks!

- Waukeen gave her "divinity" to Llira (sp?) to leave the Prime Plane during the ToT

- Waukeen called in a favour from Graz'zt for him to transport her to her Realm

- Graz'zt betrays Waukeen and imprisoners her in his "tri-fold" city

(I'm not sure about this part)

- Graz'zt begins a campaign to seduce Waukeen and treats her well (i.e. in a gilded cage, no torture or torment, etc.) so he will be able to take her divinity later

- Selune (or someoen tells Seulne) about Waukeen's fate and she initiates the actions that begin the module

The module, For Duty and Deity, is actually available as a free PDF download at WotC. See here:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads

Additionally, the FRCS also details this event a little...

I'v ran that adventure before...the big thing to me is at the end of the adventure, if you are a kind DM, you PC's party find themselves in great favour to the goddess of wealth

and you made an eternal enemy of Graz'zt

I'v often felt the consequences of that module to your players ahve been very underestimated...

Also, the adventure is a real killer... I ran it once with rather powerful characters, and they only escaped by means of a damn well formulated wish...

If I remember correctly, wasn't that module tied in with a Planescape game and a series of novels (Planescape, as well)? Or am I confusing it with something else... Anyway, I have been through that adventure as a player and I must say, wow, it kicked our arses pretty good at the end. Smooth sailing until then, though. But wow. It was nearly a whole party kill. But, the reward was nice.

How could the goddess of wealth be so stupid as to rely on a Demon prince. Don't get it.

When hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.

Actually, it's quite simple. Desperation. She wanted to "beat" Ao's banishment. And, being the goddess of wealth, she figured she could bribe a demon lord into helping her. Of course, we all know what a demon lord craves most: power. And imagine Graz'zt's glee when he realized he would have a goddess at his mercy. This is one of my favorite "stories" of the Time of Troubles. So devious, full of betrayal and intrigue. Just like any Tanar'ri-related story should be!

She was desparate to get back to the Outer Planes... And a goddess of merchants is going to expect a deal to be kept, when it's made.

You could tie it in with Tales of the Infinite Staircase, if you so choose but you didn't have to. However, the Staircase still exists in the current cosmology as well, thus tieing the seperate cosmologies back together.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I just did some research, and I was mistaken. It was the novel, "Tymora's Luck," that was tied in to Dragonlance and Planescape, in the Lost Gods series. Still a decent story, but not quite what I thought. Sorry to confuse!

Tymora's Luck (and the preceding novel, Finder's Bane) ranks quite highly on my list of favorite Realms novels.

I agree...and would add Waukeen is a true Neutral goddess of wealth and commerce who would deal with any alignment, at least until they betrayed Her or the deal

I wondered once if Waukeen may shift to the LN axisbecause of her ordeal...or maybe even the good morality, which then opens up the portfolio for an "evil" merchant power..thus the good and bad side of wealth and commerce
