ˇ@ˇ@According to Code of the Harpers, Power of Faerun and Dragon #346, there are ten High Herald offices. Now we know five High Heraldsˇ¦specialties, e.g. Crescentcoat is the most active investigator and debater, but how about the four vanished offices (Huntsman, Manyshields, Blue Blade and Starscepter) and the new Silver Stag?
ˇ@ˇ@Thanks for any reply.

Well, after sneaking in the new High Herald and hoping it avoided the dreaded editorial axe, I suppose I should sit down and think about what Silver Stag's 'role' is. I'll get back to you.

Huntsman was the "undercover investigator" of suspect lineages and rulers breaking heraldic rules, and Manyshields was the keeper of the rolls, responsible for the updating and making and distribution of copies (including hidden "backups") of heraldic registries used by all of the High Heralds in various locations. The others, you'll have to ask Ed about in his thread, and I'll pass your query along to him. love, THO |

Thank you, dear Krashos. I love your fascinating Impiltur article, hoping we can see more about Realms regions in the future.
Thank you, lovely THO, it's great for the Lady Herald to herald a herald question.

Hmmm... You forgot to get back to him, George ;-P If in the meantime you've come up with the answer I'd be really interested. Also, I'd like to know if there's a standardized way for heralds to keep their real identity secret... whilst still publicly performing the Bloodsong each Feast of the Moon(I'm thinking specifically of Sable of Crimmor who nobody is supposed to know is Mikaal Krimmevol).
Thank you in advance. |

Yes, I suppose I have taken my time on this one ...
Silver Stag has both an outward role and a secret role. As the only High Herald east of the Inner Sea, she is outwardly tasked with spreading the ordered framework of heraldry into "strange" eastern lands. She has Impiltur, Aglarond, Thesk and Damara as solid foundations and hopes to move in on Thay, the Wizard's Reach and the Great Dale. As this occurs, another High Herald is slated for the Vilhon Reach and the attendant lands around there. Silver Stag's secret role however is to be the guardian of much secret lore collected by the Heralds throughout their history on secret bloodlines, lost heirs and supposedly extinct families. Using a portal network set up by the Blackstaff and a couple of secret extra-dimensional hidey holes, this lore is safeguarded and separate from the existing Herald strongholds for security reasons. It's always important to know when an Obarskyr who is an Obarskyr is going to pop up.

Any speculation on where these portals may be? Can you point me to the reference material that states what the specialties of the other members are? I thought there was some in the Silver Marches but it was pretty bare bones IIRC. |

The specialties of the other High Heralds are set out in Power of Faerun.
An insight into aspects of the portal network can be found in the novel 'Blackstaff'.

Khelben built a number of portal networks over the centuries, one of which linked up with Impiltur and one of his "tombs". Before his demise, Khelben (for his own reasons) provided the Heralds with access to this portal network. The novel doesn;t mention the Heralds, just the portal network.
