Ok, so whos your favorite and most hated character(s) from all the FR novels? I dont just mean main characters, just anyone who has appeared in the novels, and in a personality\character sense, not as in how you liked the book itself.
I personally like:
Erevis Cale Alias Caledan Caldorian Artemis Entreri Bruenor Battlehammer (makes me laugh with his grumpiness) and yeah ill have to say.....Drizzt Do'Urden
The character which I built up so much hate whilst reading the novel was..... Ghost (from the "Night Masks" novel). He really got to me in a way that i never thought a character from a novel could!

I've gotta say I'm pushed to decide whether I prefer Artemis Entreri or Drizzt. IMHO neither would be the same without the other.
Many of my favourites are the lesser characters from the books like Mikel and Pikel Bouldershoulder from the Cleric Quintet books (the episode with the snake is true fantasy and cracks me up every time I read it). I find I can relate to these more than the "big" heroes.
Have to agree about Bruenor Battlehammer, I've known players as grumpy as him outside of the game
These are the only characters i know that play a big part in Salvatore's books..those are the only books I've read in Forgotten Realms. What are some other good series I could read from FR?
I'd definitely recommend The Cleric Quintet. A brilliant series of books which have encouraged 4 or 5 people I work with to becoming D&D players - they couldn't understand the attraction before.
Ive read "Canticle" (Cleric Quintet Book 1) which i quite enjoyed. IMHO, "In Sylvan Shadows" seemed to be just battle after battle and not much thought went into the books overall plot. "Night Masks" really got me gripped and as I said in an earlier post on this topic, ive never hated a novel character so much as the once called "Ghost" in this novel. "The Fallen Fortress" was quite good too and worth reading.
I havent read "The Chaos Curse" yet, its well within my list of novels to read before the next epic

Currently i am strickly Forgotten Realms, i have and read all of the Dark Sun books and Ravenloft books but they no longer publish them...
the only other book series i am currently reading is the Harry Potter books ( i know , i know, but hey dont bash em till ya try em, i did and am eating those words now)
"The man who does not read has little advantage over the man who cannot read."
Definatly an FR reader, i currently have a list of novels that i HAVE to read through in order to catch up on a bit of Realmslore and events, after that I can leisurly read the other FR novels. (Although its unlikely that ill ever catch up as more novels are released all the time, such as the new War of the Spider Queen series which is quite a major event).
I also read Ravenloft Novels, which, from what ive read so far are pretty good, some of the best ive read!

AFAIK, the War of the Spider Queen series is basically about Lloth, the Spider Queen and a major drow deity. Lloth appears to have gone silent, drow clerics are granted no spells and recieving no sign from Lloth. The drow do not even know if she is even still alive (although IMO Id expect the high drow priestesses to have some inner feeling of this if Lloth were indeed dead). Chaos has broken out in the Underdark and I believe the city featured in the series (Maerimydra ) is having a civil war....... of course I may be entirely wrong as I dont own any of the novels yet (being in the UK I doubt Ill see them for another few months, but im not going to rant about WotC's abysmal distribution again)

AFAIK, City of the Spider Queen (according to the back cover) is about a party of drow adventurers.....unwillingly led by Quenthel Baenre, the new high priestess of Menzo.
As far as favorites are concerned...of course Drizzt, but that goes without saying...however, I have always thought that Eliath Craulnober deserves his own series...and that Jander Sunstar is one of the most under-rated characters in the Realms. I also am a sucker for Catti-brie and Khelben Arunsun...but eh, what are ya gonna do?
SPOILER ALERT!!!! . . . . . . .. . . Strangely enough...one of my FAVORITE villains EVER was Roddy McGristle from Sojourn...the scene where he is pushing Drizzt's scimitars into his own neck is chilling! What's more...he's still alive...I'd love to see something more on him....
My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm
Of course, Wulfgar just sets my teeth gnashing...he did SORT OF redeem himself in Sea of Swords (or rather, I think it was Sea of Swords)...then again....you just DON'T HIT CATTI-BRIE!!!
sigh...
My proclivities toward anti-Elminster-ishness are becoming fabled tales of lore around these hallowed walls, so I won't utter them here....
Strahd REALLLLY gets me going...but I think that makes me like him even more...if there is a more villainous character in the Realms, I haven't seen them....sigh....Poor Jander........

My favorite character would have to be Drizzt. I haven't read that many other Forgotten Realms books, so I don't really have any other favorites. I guess the character I hate most is Roddy Mcgristle from Sojourn.
Well my favourites are Zaknafein Do'Urden and Artemis Entreri. Actually, just Zaknafein.House Do'Urden does not(actually did not) deserve someone like Zaknafein. And Artemis,an exceptional character. Just his charisma is enough. But I don't think I hate any characters...
I hate Drizzt. In the Icewind Dale trilogy he was pretty good. But Salvatore has screwed him so much. And players in my Greyhawk campaign, all they want to be is a renegade Drow, all because of Drizzt. It's ridiculous!

Sojourn is about 30 years in the past according to the FR timeline. Roddy's getting up there in years, ain't he? Not out of the question, though
My favorites are Regis, Arilyn Moonblade, Danilo Thann, Khelben Arunsen (there seems to be precious little about the Blackstaff out there) and Cyric. I take issue with some of Wulfgar's stage presence and I lose my patience with the younger Elminster, but I wouldn't condemn them to the Outer Planes or anything.
Are there any novels out there with a quality Oghma-worshipper in them?
Not really as main characters, but the series on Cadderly Bonadeuce (by RA Salvatore) features priests of Oghma at the former Edificiant Library (now the Soaring Spirit) in the Snowflake Mountains.
After reading Dissolution, I have to say that I absolutely loved Ryld and Pharaun!!! Without trying to give out any spoilers, I thought they made a great partnership and were amusing at times, appeared quite civil one minute and then showed their true drow nature the next!
A very well written pair of characters, well done Richard Lee Byers!

Dislikes: Wulfgar (Starts to get irritating) Catti-Brie (Dont like her because she chased away poor Junger, eventhough it was necessary) Dinin Do'Urden Briza Do'Urden

I feel that, after Canticle onward, the series is just a string of battle scene after another with foregone conclusions and some angst thrown in the between. Especially, and I agree here, In Sylvan Shadows. The forced philosophizing doesn't help. Cleric Quintet as a whole has something that really grates on me, incidentally -- the repetitive use of adjectives like "evil", "wicked", "malignant" and such to describe the bad guys. What is the point? We all know they are evil. Is there a need to beat our heads with it, over and over and over? What happened to "show, not tell"?
But I won't go on another rant, because no doubt, some people would insist that I'm grumbling because I have a personal vendetta against Salvatore or some such nonsense. *snickers*
Favourite characters (whee! British spelling! Shoot me now!):
Pharaun Mizzrym Taegan Nightwind Shamur Uskreven -- probably a rather odd choice, considering that she hasn't appeared in anyone else's favourite list, but there you go. Elaith Craulnober (Craulnobur? Er.) Liriel Baenre Alias Danilo Thann
Not-so-favourite:
Kierkan Rufo -- does this pathetic specimen of a cardboard cut-out have any purpose in life beyond making Cadderly look better? Any at all? My kingdom for a three-dimensional antagonist! Pikel -- this alleged comic relief gets old. Fast. Jar-Jar Binks, anyone? Narm Tamariath -- ugh. Can we say, token husband? Can we get any more spineless? I'm all for strong female characters, but that doesn't mean the male ones have to be doormats. Shandril Shessair -- fluctuates between Omg!Determined!heroine and sobbing wreck of angst. Pick one and stay with it, will you? Aballister "Luke, I'm your father!" Bonaduce -- whywhywhy does he survive, this egomaniacal, stereotypical, conniving, incompetent wizard, whereas more interesting, more intelligent villains like Barjin die?
