I don't usually. The only books I have multiple copies of are the Legend of Drizzt re-releases in hardcover. Other than that, I don't get re-releases of what I already have for the sake of collecting (my budget can't afford it) |

I only do this with Ed's FR books. I do it, mainly, because I frequently re-read his novels and so, to keep the hardcovers in mint condition, I purchase the paperback versions and read those instead.

If I have it in hardcover, then I don't buy the soft cover. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

It's changed somewhat, but for every word Ed included in the "new" version of Spellfire, a word from the "older" published version had to be removed. So, as it is, it's a little closer to the original, but not exactly.
Both Ed and THO have discussed this in their replies here at Candlekeep.
