I've seen one or two very casual mentions made of Eilistraee-worshiping drow in the Velarswood (in Harrowdale). Are there any sources that go into more detail on them and their community aside from "hey, non-evil drow live here"?

They appear in the War of the Spider Queen series (notably in Book IV), though the accuracy of their portrayal has been questioned. There's also a bit in Demihuman Deities - don't know if you've seen that already.

As I recall, Volo's Guide to the Dalelands is the only other specific reference for the Eilistraee-worshipping drow of the Velarwood.

It can be downloaded as a free PDF at WotC:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads

TobyKikami, Sage, thanks to you both. I guess I'll just have to get a copy of Demihuman Deities then; and thanks for the Volo's Guide to the Dalelands link.

BTW, what was "off" with the description of the Eilistraeen drow in WotSQ IV? All I can remember is their hunting some very wretched werewolves as well as aiding Halisstra and Ryld. (Though I read somewhere that 'moon-worshipping lycanthropes' dwell in the Velarswood... and having just re-read Lady of Night with its werewolf Selunite priestess, I'm wondering if the Velar werebeasts are Selunites themselves.)

What is off is the hunting of the were, also sckulls of those victims of the High Hunt being displayed. I also do not believe Eilistraee followers would enter a kill frenezzy if they caught up with an Evil of dangerious creature or monster.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

Well, faithful of Eilistraee or not, they *are* still drow...

You are as bad as the "fair" elves that view all Drow alike *wink*

Edit: Also not all followers of Eilistraee are Drow, though odds are Drow are still the majority.

They did feel a little harsher and more dogmatic than I would have expected from what I have read of Eilistraee's faith. I agree taking trophies seems a bit out of character for them, though I don't know that anything was said one way or another about trophies, and Eilistraee was a goddess of hunting before the Decsent, so I may be wrong.

from the EC and RAS drow books, and my general feelings on the drow, they were not too harsh IMO...I think all drow/Ilythiiri have a bit of a savage streak...I remember reading about the Promenade Eilistraee drow...they weren't all songs and lolli-pops

and Evermeet says taht Eilistraee was the greatest of the elven gods for hunting...(not sure how Solonor feels about that)

I read somewhere that Lisa Smedman admitted that she screwed up a bit with the Eilistraeeans.

Yes here http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2757&whichpage=2 she says

quote:
Well, you got me on the continuity thing. I missed the line about burning the bodies of evil creatures. (My only excuse is that it's in a separate section from the bit on the High Hunt, which is what I was describing.) I suppose I could try to fix this continuity flaw after the fact by saying that the werewolves were slain in full-on wolf form, were mistaken as (neutral) wolves and their (animal, non-evil) bodies left for other creatures of the forest to feed on, but that would be fibbing. :-)

At least as far as the High Hunt went. She agreed she missed continuity.

As for how followers are protrayed that I suspect is personal interpertation.

I am sure some followers are more pariniod then others, which would tend to make them appear harsher.

I can't help but to think that 'Secret Moondancers' (Eilistraee-worshippers who live in the Underdark as members of Lolth-worshipping communities) are extremely ruthless and paranoid. They have to be just to survive, let along try to spread the worship of the Dark Maiden among fellow drow.
