I seem to remember shadowdale being torn apart. But on alfa nwn server shadowdale is still there. Is this set before that or is this just non canon?

Torn apart.....?
Not sure what you mean. Shadowdale has had 3 or 4 wars ever since the 1e box set but it's always been rebuilt or it's always been there.... So it's not "torn apart.".... |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Shadowdale has endured a fair amount of conflict during its history... but it's never really been lost completely or "gone." And there's always been someone to rebuild it after even the most devastating attacks.
I suggest you take a look through the various sources for Shadowdale -- Volo's Guide to the Dalelands, The Dalelands, the Shadowdale supplement from the 2e FR boxed set, and all editions of the FRCS. You might find you're confusing the history of Shadowdale with another of the "lost" Dales -- there have been a couple. |

Ah,
well yeah that has been destroyed but a new tilverton, on a different site, but nearby, is being built. It's in the shade anthology. |

And there's tidbits in Realms of Shadow.
