I have a mind puzzler here. I want to give a chance for one of my players to be touched by a god. In this case, it ought to be Loviatar (in 2E) . And I was wondering, do some kind of strict rules exist for chosen ones (abilities, spells, ...) or is it simply something I should decide? Thnx!

Think you are going to have to make it up.... or you could base it on some of the Proxy rules from Manual of the Planes or Deities and Demigods for 3e...... Planewalkers Handbook from Planescape is also useful on Proxies. :)
Otherwise, maybe look through her specialty priest from Faiths & Avatars and decide if any of those abilities are useful.... |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

To be honest, the heading reminded me of a t-shirt, so I couldn't help but chuckle. |

Unfortunately that template is for 3E, but I'm sure it would be possible to convert it (though most conversions go from 2E to 3E lol) |

I would make it up. You don't necessarily need granted powers or special rules, just have the god manifest occasionally in the character's favour. That has advantages over a set of abilities that the player might come to rely on and become complacent about.
There's a big variety of divine favour, a continuum, from the god's attention that every underpriest has through to the unique situation of Mystra's Chosen. In between you have people like Florin Falconhand who are favoured by a deity, various important priests, divine champions, proxies (in Planescape sense). Some of those people might be called 'Chosen' by certain groups of people, but it's just a label -- there's no formula for it and the label doesn't always refer to the same thing. |
