Description of what I am working on:
1. It has the appearnce of silverfire, but is not. 2. It has a different color of silvefire. 3. Can only be used in the most dire of situations. 4. Comes from Lathander himself when used. 5. Only given to a few memebers within the church. 6. Highly damages undead and evil-aligned beings.
I'll be using this for my article, some of you may remember what it is but those who dont, well I wont spill ;). It plays a very important roll for a battle of mine, and is commanded by one of the characters with awe.
If you can help with ideas and suggestions, please do. I am, again, wanting to do this properly. Also, if your good at things like this and all that, I am looking for some help to stat out this too if people want to use it. Any other questions that need to be asked to further this, I'll be happy to answer...now that I can blame Kuje for showing me several Demon/Devil/Fiend'ish books that I bought this past week

Do you plan it to be a feat? class ability? a template ability (like being a Chosen?)
It sounds to me you are drawing upon Lathander's (or any sun god's) divine essence to smite the most hated foes of Lathander...his "gold fire" per say
And I think it would be appropriate as a "mini" PrC ability (a 5 level one), a "chosen template" for Lathander or a very high level feat (or even epic feat) |

Gold fire is nice, but I think Lathanders Rose fire would be much more 'oooooh!'
Thats my detailed opinion |

ok here we go
1) Is not SilverFire, as in this the power comes from ray magic, in this case the power comes from Sun itself infused by Good escence. In this case maybe a better representation like a shining light that grows to fill an area in a burst (like a Fireball) would be better in my opinion
2) Can be a golden light, or maybe at first a pale, white light as in a sunrise, in the second round the bright is so intense that its imposible to see the person that is casting it, and in the final round is the pink-red tone of the setting sun. As a mini sunrise centered in the caster
3)You can make it effects very draining in the caster, like a Sanctified spell (In Book of Exalted Deeds spells) that drain a heavy amount of Charisma and Wisdom from the character channeling the ability. Maybe causes 1d4 negative levels as the lifeforce (and thus the positive energy) of the character must be drained to fuel the channelling. Something that makes this ability a last resort ability.
4) I dont understand very well this point. Comes from Lathander as he granted it himself like Mystra grants the Silverfire or comes from Lathander in the point that a part of he is drained when its casted. Maybe in this point you can rule that the ability can be used only in Daytime and everytime that the ability is used a few seconds eclipse occur so it can be used only in the dires situations, or maybe the next sunrise is late a few seconds as a remainder that Lathander must gather again its strength.
5) Given only to the Members that earn it, or that really need it (as lathander can take its gift back at any time). If its draining to Lathander maybe any mayor cleric (18th)knows how to "cast" it but using it in a non-critical situation is considered blasphemy and you are expulsed of the church so its used only in real needs.
6) I think you could use it as the same as the Silverfire rules to cause damage but include that as Silverfire is Raw magic, this power is the raw power of Light,Life and Goodness. Then it causes to normal enemies only temporal blindness as if seen directly to the sun, Creatures harmed by sunlight find that the power affect them as what it is Real sunlight. Undead, Shadow creatures, Shades, Shadow dragons are harmed as if a Disentegrate Ray of the level of the caster strucks them without saving throw as the Real Light of the Morning Lord vanish the shadows of the world. Evil Outsiders are harmed as if a Banquish spell strucks them sending them again to the depths to where they belong, Evil Material Plane Creatures are permanently blinded as Lathander himself finds them unworthy of seeing his divine light again and maybe granted them a single, in the moment Redemption spell as they fell the real power of goodness.
This are some ideas, maybe they are in the Brightest side of the world, but maybe you can find them useful and adapt them to your conceptions.
One last thing, as lathander is the god of the Life and in some way of the reborn, the Light can also be used to Resurrect as the spell a creature incinerating their remains in the light and then it reborns from the ashes just like the pheonix the holy bird of Lathander.
Ah, and Maybe Sunflare or Sunfire could be a good name.

I vote for that one.
Dawnfire.
Poetic, appropriate.

Very spiffy, I just have to work out the mechanics some how if JoeMama wants to use it in his/her campaign in some way or another. Besides that, I just have to flesh out a rather powerful battle with a certain demon queen and I'm good to go on the article for the most part unless more information is needed before it's appearnce ;) |

Dawnfire is very poetic. Sounds like a "positive energy" alternative to Mephistopheles' Hellfire. It's about time Lathander started showing some hutzpah. |

Dawnfire sounds very appropriate to me too. Like the idea of it!
Some remarks to your discription above:
2) Color golden-redish would be nice. 5) Given only to a few - how do you select those that are gifted with the power? Is it a feat/PrC or the like? A PrC is most fitting in my opinion. Just thought of linking the power to one of Lathanders domains as the special "granted power". Just an idea to elaborate on.

Well, I dont want it to necessarly be a PrC becathat requires levels, and I've never seen it as a "Powered by.." sort of thing, since it is of Lathander him self basically. You know, the true smiting to the things he hates. I see it as a thing that if given the chance, it could severely hurt say Orcus, though likely causing great damage to saiduser. |

It sounds like you want Lathander to channel his pure force/power through the "hero"...so that would be more of a temporary ability unless you go with the "chosen" template or make the "hero" a temporary proxie...
It reminds me of what Mystra did to Halaster to strike at Asmodeous in Eliminster in Hell |

Well, all I know for sure that it is something that is only allowed to be used in the most dire of times. So, yes, it is a temporary ability that can only be called upon in the most dire of times.
I really do need to get Elminster in Hell though since it involves Fiends quiet a bit. But back to topic....
If any of you can give me details about getting this sort of thing stat out and stuff, please tell me. This, and the Redeemed Templated are the only things holding me up from completing my article for the most part. |

Unfortunately the 3e Gods and Panthenons book (if that is it's right name) does not ahve a template for "proxie" and there isn't a generic chosen template eithor...have you thought about modifying the saint template a little?
for now, off the top of my head..I would have Lathander give them a mini-holy quest to accomplish...and if they pass then someone is granted his "blessing" which is then unleashed at the proper time...and the holder of the bless ing is then rewarded with the saint template or something..
** possible spoiler **
if you don't know...basically in Elminister in Hell at the end of the book Asmodeous is about to smite Elminster from the megaverse when Mystra (who in return of curing Halister's insanity and I think making him a Choosen) teleports Halister literally into Asmodeous's face and Mystra uses Halaster as a conduit to blast Asmodeous with a memory loss spell so he forgets the whole "Elminster" thing...
(this was soooo against 2E canon as in the book Guide to Hell it sayes that Asmodeous is not a Devil but the one of the twin, very first gods of the whole Megaverse who created the Balance and the Outer Planes...much too powerful for Mystra's spell) |

The proxy templates can be found in Deities and Demigods or Manual of the Planes. However, those are revised, a bit, in the Player's Guide to Faerun. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I've basicaly have all of this worked out, so I can answer my own question in how she is able to use this ability.
I think I'm narrowing it down more to the effects of the Dawnfire and stats of it. |
